I can't believe the people next to him or behind him didn't say / do anything!!!!

What you mean the ten years olds that are looking at him  - what do you propose they do. Now the person standing behind in the fluro jacket that's a different story altogether - especially if it had been going on all game.

Disappointing in this day and age that we still get these types of cretins at the footy and I'm sure the WCE football club and their supporters would all be embarrased that he is wearing their colours.

Seems they have to raise their standards at Launceston. We don't like officials getting heavy over supporters just being loud or standing up at the larger grounds, but insults like this should be fairly obvious issues for officials to deal with. The official was just watching a free football match by the looks.

What he said was offensive and not acceptable. I am not sure if it is racist as much as offensive (to women especially). I think that the second word is more offensive than the first one. He should have been thrown out for that one alone!!

There is no room for racists in any sport and it's a shame that it was an Eagle's supporter who has made these awful comments. If he is a member of the club I would hope that his membership be suspended and if he has a reserved seat at Subiaco that this be allocated to someone else. How quickly fans like this guy forget the days when our best indigenous players like Chris Lewis were racially abused. We didn't like it then and we certainly don't want our fans doing this to other players today. It's a real shame that the little kid had to witness this and even a bigger shame that the racist didn't get punched by the father.

I would think that guy in the fluro jacket is a security guard. If that's the case, he should be sacked immediately. It's his job to stamp out that sort of thing and evict idiots from the ground.

I tend to agree, it really isn't racism in the true sense of the word. I personally don't have a problem with it in that sense. Someone can be white and also a C***. The n word is another story.

Its definitely racist.
its also definitely sexist and bigoted against woman. However you would have to be directing the comment towards a woman...is she was black it would be worse still.

Both together are a pretty over the top racial slur.

you can use either separately and tone and volume can come into play to dictate intent and meaning.

Put both together and you may as well cut up the sheets and go to a clan rally.

That isn't true. If something has connotations, using it in any sense, even if you don't mean it in a negative way, is still degrading. The problem is, people, especially kids, hear others use words like c***, and they think that it is ok to use them, because they don't mean it as degrading. However, the word itself is still degrading, and thus, unacceptable to use.

It's like using the N word in a different context. It is still racist.

Must be something in the air down there in Launceston.

Back in 2008, when we played, funnily enough West Coast, my mates and I were called "Fuc*ing wogs" by one of their supporters.

We just laughed...pretty much the only thing you can do (apart from beat the crap out of him...but (a) we're very calm blokes and (b) it was late in the last quarter and we were destroying them :) )

Really what you two clowns find offensive or racist and whether or not you have a problem with the word "black" used in this context are irrelevant.

Firstly the insults were not directed at yourselves and secondly I'm 99% sure neither of you are indigenous.

I think you will find the 'attendant in the fluro thing' is actually just an usher. The security guards at Aurora wear predominantly black.

I'm not saying he shouldn't have reported this douche bag, but don't take it out on the guy for not scruffing him and getting beaten up on:thumbsu:

Very disappointed in the actions by this person attending the game. Disgusting.

Almost as disappointed that no action was taken on the day. I've worked in stadium security before whilst studying at uni- if you don't think you can handle a situation yourself you call for backup. But you don't let the clowns vilify, assault or abuse anyone. By all means, have fun and a great time at the footy but don't overstep the line.

As bad as it was this bloke racially abusing Franklin, I find it typical of society today that some also blame the (possible) security near him for his inaction( who know what happened after) as if the words came from his mouth as well.
Blame the abuser and the abuser alone.

Kudos TGOG, and kudos to the WCE supporters who have come over to voice their disgust - you and your club have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of by guilt of association with a redneck throwback to the neanderthals.

What would be a shame is if this thread went right off track, which it looks in seriously danger of doing.

Let's CONDEMN RACISM.

agree that person in the fluro should have got someone to get him for sure sadly he did not

Really, you don't find it racist? Well you'd definitely be offended by me because I believe that is a c*** of an opinion. I see no problem with anatomy, I do see a problem with denigrating people based on the colour of their skin.

it is true. comedians use the word as part of a joke its not nescescarily degrading to woman but no doubt is still offensive, u r confusing the two.

Regardless what I am talking about is that calling someone a black c*nt is racist. that is a fact and if anyone would like to come at me on it they are welcome.

what I am saying is that you may somehow use either word and it may have some reason that isnt derogatory but the two together most definately and unreservedly is. Therefore there is no excuse.

Maybe you should read the earlier posts and get up to speed, we are argueing over agreeing :)

Agree with Underdog here. Only one person that needs to be sorry and that's the guy that did it regardless of the club he supports.

The club can't pick the supporters it's the other way around.

BTW that green vested waste of space behind him. Good Job! hope you earn't your $50.

agree :thumbsu: sadly every team has them :( and the usher should have tried to get security or cops

I dont actually understand what you are trying to say but you are trying to be offensive, which is pretty pathetic really. If you read my comment i didnt say it wasnt racist - but that it is more offensive. If you think the
"c" word is no acceptable, then why dont you have the courage to use it in your post and not be a hypocryte?

Are you people kidding? Not racist? Or not being as offensive as simply being called a c?

It's about how the phrase is used, the cultural baggage it carries. Content and context.

The use of the term carries the weight of hatred and a history of racist behaviour and, more sinister, normally political oppression.

Why do you think people like Buddy take such offense? Because he's precious? No, because terms like that have been hurled in hate at Buddy's people for generations. And used as a put-down both to individuals and their race. Just look at the expression of the guy's face who hurled the insult and tell me it's not racist.
