Corporate regulatory capture, with a Silicon Valley bent.

Does the US have any real regulatory oversight on anything any more? Silicon Valley is home to some of the most unaccountable corporations in history.

It was a very interesting watch. Nothing that we didn't really know, but very well presented and in a way that you can lean both blue and red and it will fan the flames of discontent.

Incredible watch

Hah I was supposed to be in the audience for that but ended up staying in Melbourne because of the ****ing Saints.

Agree with him that it's super hard to regulate well so it should be a last ditch answer. I don't mind it for doctors, for instance.

But also agree with him that transparency is the answer, government ****ing hates it but it's the only way to go.

What if aliens are just those from the last ice age that travelled to another planet to survive and now they're coming back to Earth to visit their descendants and see how we're all doing?

My best thoughts come on the shitter

You wouldn't be thinking it on the shitter then as that's where they be probin.

Unless you know, you're into that sort of thing, no judgement.

Bored Bugs Bunny GIF by MOODMAN

This video talks about a super interesting 33 year study that showed that a higher total cholesterol level was associated with a higher chance of becoming a centenarian. But hey let's not let the truth get in the way of pharma companies making huge profits on statin drugs!

Cholesterol has a pretty tenuous link from what I've read. I think it's just one of those co-morbidities that have made it an easy enemy.

If you eat a mostly unprocessed diet I think you can worry about diet a lot less. There was a really good doco on the sugar industry years ago. Said that they'd invented low-fat because people were getting fat in the 1970s and they worked out that it was sugar.....so they invented a new enemy and started selling "diet" foods that were so unpalatable due to a lack of fat that they had to load them with sugar, flavourings and salt. People kept getting fatter.

Glycemic spiking looks pretty terrible for you and fasting periods look undoubtably like they improve your chances of living a long life.

The centenarians had lower blood glucose levels which supports your argument
Ancel Keys was a fraud!

My grandmother got to 94 and cooked all her own food and never bought packet shit. Used to eat pretty lightly and didn't eat breakfast ate her dinner at the same time around 7 every night. Drank small amounts of booze right up until the end, smoked until she was about 70, was fit and never took medication. Was still playing golf pulling her own buggy up until about 85.

Lots of data looks like fasting was probably what she did right. Stressing the body through exercise and going without food and eating less looks like it's a really solid model for longevity.

Cholesterol can definitely clog arteries and veins, but there isn't really a link between dietary cholesterol and what forms in your body.
Similarly, Carbs form sugars within your body, and an excess of carbs isn't a lot better than too much sugar, except the sugar can stuff up your pancreas and cause diabetes.

You can be a statistical outlier. Smoking is not good. You can have 10% chance of living to 94 and be on of the lucky 10%.

Carbs turn into sugar so high carbs and sugar together is like diabetes juice.
