The "Richmond haven't beaten anyone " myth thread

Yep, but this is a bit different, a solid away win against a genuine top 4 side cements the Tigers position as a bonafide contender not pretender. There is every chance they will have to travel in September anyway so they might as well put the myth to bed this weekend. If not then Carey & Co will have more ammo to aim at them.

Why is everyone using the word "pretender" for Richmond? Have they tried to convince anyone that they are a premiership contender? Has anyone been talking them up as a premiership contender?

They haven't pretended to be anything other than a side that finishes 5th-6th this year, which is exactly what they are. They are just a solid side who's beaten all the minnows, beaten most of their rivals for the 8 and lost to the better teams at the pointy end of the ladder. There's no pretending going on.

Don't shoot the messenger, i'm only using the word that Wayne Carey used to describe the Tigers. I like Hardwick and his team, i hope they beat the Swans!

We've really beaten no one of great ability this year so it is a fair comment. Yes maybe we got the dockers last week but they were well below their best side. The next two weeks will really tell us supporters where in fact we are at in the big scheme of things. The lid is certainly still staying on as far as I'm concerned. It will be great if we made finals this year and got some real pressure time.

Again, Barry, people cannot seem to comprehend this. How can we be labelled as pretenders when we have won the games we are expected to (Bar North Melbourne), and lose the games we are expected to. Going by this, we are going AS EXPECTED. And going as expected cannot make you pretenders.

I think the tiges are definitely overrated. was looking through their wins for the year b4 the dockers game. Hadn't beaten any1 decent & Couldn't help but notice they r 2 games clear in the 8 from port, blues and 1 game from the pies and they have played the dogs twice.

And who were Carltons significant wins? Your club is a joke. The laughing stock of the competition.

Haven't played Brisbane or GWS yet. That should be 2 wins there. Essendon and Carlton both are 50/50 and I'd back us in to win both. Hawthorn and Sydney should be good games, and we should lose, but I wouldn't be surprised if we knock one off.

We are 11-5, should finish on 13-15 wins.

It's a shit term, but 'pretenders' is used more often than not for clubs that might finish top 8, but clearly cannot win the premiership. Essentially, it describes, Richmond, Collingwood, Carlton, and Freo. Leaving only the Hawks, Swans, and Cats as the 'contenders'.

Sorry if I'm a bit Captain Obvious on this.

You're right. Rnd 1 being a prime example of a nothing team

As a neutral you should shut the f##k up, your club is a complete embarrassment.you are proven cheats and have always operated in suspect manner. Judd and his dodgy payments have just come back and bit you on the arse and the messiah who was going to deliver you a premiership is a pipe dream now. Malthouse is not the answer, far from it , who would employ a pensioner to deliver a flag in this modern game? You lot have got NFI and you will be stuck with that grumpy old c##t and those overpaid hacks that will never deliver you any success.

So what - who has Freo beaten? Who has Carlton beaten? Who has Collingwood beaten?

Tony Shaw has always bagged Richmond on Fox Footy. Last year he and Dermot were giving their top 5 from the 2004 draft. Dermot had Deledio at 3 but Shaw was unable to fit him in. His reasoning was that even though Deledio had won multiple Best and Fairest's, they didn't count because they were won at a poor club.

Richmond haven't beaten anyone of note this year but are going better than most would have suggested at the start of the year.
