Currently a very interesting dynamic from 4th to 8th with teams likely to jostle for position to either play finals (outside the 8) or to finish as best they can from 4th-8th.

Currently;

Western Bulldogs (4th) 48 points
Sydney (5th) 48 points
North Melbourne (6th) 44 points
Richmond (7th) 44 points
Geelong (8th) 42 points
------------------------------------------
Adelaide (9th) 42 points
GWS (10th) 40 points

I have taken into account the remaining games and my ladder predictor has come up with the following;

Sydney (4th) 64 points
-------------------------------------------------
Western Bulldogs (5th) 60 points
Richmond (6th) 56 points
North Melbourne (7th) 52 points
Geelong (8th) 50 points

Which makes some finals very interesting in round 1. From this, I think the layout of the finals will occur the following way;

1. Fremantle
2. West Coast
3. Hawthorn
4. Sydney
5. Western Bulldogs
6. Richmond
7. North Melbourne
8. Geelong

Qualifying finals
Fremantle vs Sydney (Fremantle)
West Coast vs Hawthorn (Hawthorn)

Elimination finals
Western Bulldogs vs Geelong (Geelong)
Richmond vs North Melbourne (North Melbourne)

Semi Finals
Sydney vs Geelong (Geelong)
West Coast vs North Melbourne (West Coast)

Preliminary Finals
Fremantle vs West Coast (West Coast)
Hawthorn vs Geelong (Hawthorn)

Grand Final
Hawthorn vs West Coast (Hawthorn)

Few surprises here;
  • Geelong to win 2 finals in a row
  • Richmond to lose elimination final for the 3rd year running
  • Fremantle to be upset by West Coast in preliminary final
  • Sydney out in straight sets
Interesting to see what other people come up with for their ladder predictors!

Sydney are the interesting ones. If as you say, will likely finish top four but do look vulnerable.

WB a finals unknown. Most likely won't get a game at Etihad.

North and Richmond both unpredictable and would be a fitting final if they played each other.

Port and North made last year a bit different in September last year, will probably happen again this year.

Very flattering for the Cats

I'd back Sydney to win against Geelong in Sydney.

Plus in finals all sorts of weird shit can happen. If we make top 4 we are just as much of a chance to make a prelim as the others

Seems like we're being written off, regardless of who we play. Sweet.

I've got:

1. Fremantle
2. Hawthorn
3. West Coast
4. Bulldogs
5. Sydney
6. Richmond
7. Adelaide
8. Geelong

Qualifying
Fremantle v Bulldogs (Fremantle)
Hawthorn v West Coast (Hawthorn)

Elimination
Sydney v Geelong (Sydney)
Richmond v Adelaide (Richmond)

Semis
Bulldogs v Sydney (Bulldogs)
West Coast v Richmond (Richmond)

Prelims
Fremantle v Richmond (Fremantle)
Hawthorn v Bulldogs (Hawthorn)

GF
Fremantle v Hawthorn (Hawthorn)

geelong in a prelim? no way they beat bulldogs and sydney on the road.

Richmond is the one from the bottom half of the 8 that can upset the balance of power if you will. they seem to like playing in western australia and from 6th there won't be high expectations which suits them perfectly.

Eagles in straight sets? Explain....

Cats could get Dogs in an elim, all finals are technically away for them so G or etihad is irrelevant. I expect their senior players to hand dogs a lesson.

Playing Sydney on the road? Don't rate Sydney atm, just lost to Geelong as well and playing really bad footy.

at etihad bulldogs are a top 4 side. away from that stadium they're average if that game is at etihad bulldogs win if it's anywhere else geelong wins. but in this scenario i assume it would be at etihad..

Can't beat Richmond! Can't win at Subi! Flat-track bullies! Pretenders/only near the top because of a soft draw!
In all seriousness- we might just have too many players missing ala 2007

I really can't see us losing to Hawthorn in Perth but beating Freo fresh from a week off.

As much as love Squiggle and want to believe it's possible.....neither can I :/
On the other hand, maybe the logic is that if we play Hawthorn in Perth (as opposed to Melbourne), it assumes we beat Freo this weekend despite their record against us/ despite our outs (I find that even harder to believe!) ....

OP wrote the whole post just to predict Richmond losing in the 1st Prelim
Didn't predict that Richmond would make the Prelim and would instead stay in 7th..... do you mean EF?
