At least if we finish 5th we wont face the ignominy of going out in straight sets.2 wins clear of 5th (GWS/Saints) plus percentage with 4 games to go.
We couldn’t lose 4th place could we?

Absolutely we could. People saying we can’t play as bad as we did today again were saying the same thing after the Crows and Hawks losses. Same people were saying the Demons loss would be a wake up call and set us up for a big end to the season. This team continually has a let down. Weak backbone throughout the senior team and coaching group and as great as Fagan has been at turning this club around he has bred complacency by backing in the same players time and time again over 5 years despite us failing to progress beyond being a 3rd-5th level team. Absolutely sick of it. I’ve managed to rationalise our losses thus far this season but today was the final straw. Bar a massive turnaround in mentality this team is on track for another semi final or preliminary final flogging.2 wins clear of 5th (GWS/Saints) plus percentage with 4 games to go.

I don't think 3rd or 4th makes much difference, Port or Pies away are both daunting tasks, might be good for us to go in as massive underdogs. We play the saints in the last round and I'd be stunned if we lost at the gabba. We have 20% on the giants currently.
Biggest threat might weirdly be Carlton if they get on a roll but as they've had a draw percentage doesn't matter.
In any case a qualifying final at the G v the pies is not something I'm looking forward to.

Im just amazed how flippant Fagan, the club and many on here are about that it doesnt matter if we dont finish top two.
That is just utter BS.
How anyone, particulalry Fagan and the players cant see that finishing top2 is an armchair ride into the GF and what an amazing opportunity that is. How could they not want that and more the point why that isnt such a motivating factor that they would do anything for just begs belief that they could even put up such meek, soft efforts.
We must either have a lot of simpletons at our club or they just dont care b/c we've seen on many occassions that we have the skill so why is our application so poor and how does Fagan and co not get this message through or perhaps they arent just very smart either.
You're right the gods would definitely be keeping an eye on big footy... as the OP I should have known better.I see this thread is still active.
When has a thread where we (some) get ahead of ourselves (themselves) ever worked for us? Operation, Death-ride, Prediction... threads ever worked for us. This thread should have been closed the minute it was posted. In fact it should never have been started. The footy Gods have a way of bringing you down to reality. When you're invested to your team as deeply as I/we are, superstitious stuff gets into your psyche.
Let me point out since this thread appeared we've had this happen
What next?
Go on keep inviting the divinities?

How we respond in the Dockers game next week is going to be so crucialWe managed to hang on to 3rd by the skin of our teeth this round.
Magpies- 64, 132.7% > Hawks(H), Cats(H), Lions(H), Bombers(H).
Port- 56, 109.8% > Cats(A), Giants(H), Dockers(A), Tigers(H).
Lions- 52, 125.2% > Dockers(A), Crows(H), Magpies(A), Saints(H).
Demons- 52, 124.3% > North(TAS), Blues(H), Hawks(H), Swans(A).
IMO we win 3 out of the 4 remaining games and finish 2nd or 3rd depending on percentage and/or the Demons losing 1 of their games... Blues and Swans are a chance against them.
I think Port lose at least 1 maybe 2 of their remaining games and their percentage is not good.
Yes if we lose that one I will be sad.How we respond in the Dockers game next week is going to be so crucial
I hope you are right about us winning 3 of the 4 games remaining. We managed to hang on to 3rd by the skin of our teeth this round.
