whilst on the face of it, it's a silly question by watson if you look deeper into it it's not totally stupid. Why? because there are dialects within Chile. but i dont think watson realised that at the time. hehe

ange knows his footy. its always refreshing to see guests talk about footy. an outside view that is not influenced by the boys club or potential employers.

His use of the word "dialogue" instead of "dialect" was what piqued my interest

There is another team in Melbourne

i believe we've had this talk before, even before MHFC came to being.

that's why i believe you have something against MVFC. it doesnt make sense that a neutral would complain about a lack of discussion regarding a non MVFC team.....unless you have an agenda

NO agenda at all, I would like to know whether they pay for airtime

They probably just have a better a marketing department, I suspect MV try to get Ange and the players as much exposure as possible, and that involves making fairly frequent appearances on the only sports-based radio station in Melbourne. There's also the fact that Victory are the bigger club and more people tend to be interested, its the same reason why in general Collingwood get more exposure than the Bulldogs.

It's taken me this long to realise that bedford goes for Heart (an otherwise nothing team in Melbourne, which it's purpose is to gather all the fans who had an inbuilt resistance to supporting Victory) because they have red & white colours.

im not totally sure about that (although happy to be proven wrong bedford).

i thought long and hard about this. given bedfords long history with the albert park region (south melbourne etc), my hypothesis is as such

- beford loves the south melbourne region
- anti grand prix (it has damaged the area and from memory bedford mentioned some very reasonable arguments against the event)
- south melbourne fc (soccer) play there. the club is south through and through. bedford is as south melb as they come around here.
- SMFC looked at getting into the original a league. but the MVFC consortium won.
- ergo, doesnt like mvfc.

You are wrong about South Melbourne Hellas, absolutely hate this mob as they used to just turn up and use other sporting clubs grounds, even pulling cricket pitch ropes down and training over wet wickets. They did not do the right thing by other clubs in the Albert Park area. Also hate the way they use SMFC, as they are not.
With victory I just hate the way their fans carry on with flairs and shit. I still would love to know if they pay for airtime.
I might follow Heart a bit more now that Harry is there

the south melbourne name is an interesting one. you obviously have a bond with south melbourne (swans) fc. do you still call them south melbourne, or sydney?

the use of "football club" for soccer teams is becoming increasingly prevalent. i myself played for one such club. to me its just a few words "f.c". but it does cause sleepless nights for many people in this country.

if MHFC let off a flare, would you detest them?

Do the ethnic rivalries still exist in the State League, or has that filtered down to lower-level comps?

Which is the Brit-backed club?

ethnic rivalries certainly do exist at lower levels. but you'll find clubs dont just have persons of the clubs ethnic persuasion playing there. just like australian society, clubs are multi national these days.

in my many years of soccer experience there aren't british backed blubs per se. but whenever we (my cohorts and I) spoke about certain teams with key anglo personnel, we'd refer to them as the english/irish/scottish side. but again, they welcome people from all backgrounds.

Thanks. Years ago, me and a mate went to a game near the back of the Foresters Arms in Oakleigh. My mate has Scottish heritage, and he warned me that could've been some trouble between all the Scottish dudes and the other team. I shit meself and went home. :p

Yes I would , this is Australia and we don't need that shit

Fans of the association game should be allowed to use 'football', but they have no right to claim sole use.
