Also Francis Leach hosting by himself while OX is away
Francis happy for more than one to fill in when he is away but wanting to do the run home by himself without any co host when OX is away.

I've got no problem with Frank hosting the show by himself. He pulls it off fine. Someone like the Ox doesn't really do the central hosting role, so would struggle when alone.

I was told the same thing by someone close to Harford that Harf was going to take over the hosting of good oil and someone else was going to be his co host.
I was also told that Doran was to be sacked but one member of the mgt wanted him to go and another wanted him to have one last chance.
In the end he has survived the bullet for now but he is a bit like how Denis Pagan at Carlton was with everyone wanting to get rid of him and him knowing so but standing his ground .

Bit of goss for you there

thats interesting, remember reading that here awhile back. Why don't they have Harf co-hosting with Doran? If they were going to have Harf take over with a co-host then why not do the same with Doran? Think it would be a better show.:thumbsu:

Disagree with you there. Leach can be as frustrating as KB to listen to when he is on his own. He might be a good host but for mine I like to have someone else in there with him.

I drove home tonight listening to Francis preaching about Geelongs double standards in the Steve Johnson case. It got me fired up so i sent this email to the Run Home email when i got home -

Hi Francis

Just one thing I picked up on. You are going on about Steve Johnson's misdemeanour and it shouldnt be taken lightly, and speeding is nothing to take lightly. (which i agree totally and am not condoning his actions at all) Yet i remember your delight about Fraser Gehrig deciding to play again. Do u view assaulting women as something to take lightly? HE pleaded guilty in court to assault, yet was never penalised by his club was he? Is THIS a double standard?

I havent got a reply as yet! :D

An excellent e-mail,:thumbsu: but excellent is not the word I would choose in evaluating your chances of getting a response from the Ghost of Francis Leach. You can take any sphere of life and you’ll find double standards. Geelong will, as other clubs do, indulge in spin-doctoring the situation to placate sponsors’ concerns and other league associated criteria for these things. But really, as if the Cats are going to sack or come down too heavy on what’s one of its, and the league’s, most talented players.

And the AFL don’t want clubs to go overboard on penalizing players, as its rules which won’t stand up in court if challenged. Imagine if Geelong sacked him (and went one player short on ’08) and Steve Johnson said screw you all and went back-packing for a year with Ben Cousins and figured out that something‘s not right here; then came back next year and demanded to be a free agent offering his services to the highest bidder. The draft, reservation clause, and other associated rules didn’t stand up in American courts; they won’t here, either.

Imagine if the Cats did sandshoe Johnson from the club. All the journalists like Trevor Grant, Patricia Smith, and, yes, even possibly Peter Roebuck, plus the Dorans, Fines, and the Ghost would be singing the club’s praises. That’s why they don’t run teams or leagues. These people are not responsible for selling tickets and are never accountable when they get it wrong. Remember how KB’s unofficial Australian cricket selector Patty Smith couldn’t find a spot for Glenn McGrath in HIS World Cup squad. Our official selectors did - and how did that work out? Can you spell MVP!

It’s gets you angry when jock sniffers go after your favourite players on the ol’ moral stance, but remember most media has bias to the Left: do as I say, not as I do. I often wonder if anyone remembers the "tired and emotional" journo, now working for SEN, that rang in from Dubai to do his spot on Eddie McGuire's Triple M radio show in the '90s. Yes, "tired and emotional" on-air.

The reason that Francis likes to host the run home by himself is simple...insecurity. He enjoys doing the show with Ox because the big fella poses no threat to him in terms of his knowledge of sport. However, he feels threatened and intimidated by the thought of a talented co-host who could out-perform him in any aspect (and there are a few lurking around the SEN corridors).

I used to love listening to Francis when he did the lunchtime show a few years back, especially when he'd get cricket and football historians on.

I like Francis and he is more than capable of doing the show on his own as he proved when he used to host the noon->4pm session.

Ox's knowledge of sport shouldn't be dismissed either but he works best when paired with someone. He probably prefers it that way too.

Don't know why people are criticising SEN's best (easily) regular weekday show.

Are you kiddin mate? Francis' knowledge of sport is way overrated, he regularly gets things wrong or just guesess and hopes he is right. Can't stand listening to him by himself and he has failed at both Vega and SEN hosting a show on his own. Both Vega and SEN's ratings went up in the timeslots he was hosting when he left.
Listened for 10 minutes last night and heard some guy callin complaining about tennis players only getting two line call challenges a set even if they are challenging wrong decisions. Of course this is not right and anyone whose watched any tennis for the last couple of years would know that if a challenge is correct than it doesn't count towards the two the player gets a set. Francis though had no idea and went along with how unfair it was blah blah until someone sent in a txt telling him how it was. Small example I know but I only listened for 10 mins and i'm sure he would've made other mistakes for lack of knowledge or just being too arrogant to say I don't know.

In the world of SEN, Francis' knowledge of sport is better than every other on-air person they have. Finey's not bad. KB's pretty good.

Beva if still there, would probably have them all covered.

from that sports quiz site i found this rule

whats the difference? it should be no materials permitted at all!
There's a limit with newspapers and will take time to find it and more like a cheat sheet. Computer is basically finding the answer with google.

fair enough. BUT its cheating imo.

used to listen to the midnight quiz on abc with tony delroy. whenever they heard anything like rustling of paper (ie newspapers) theyd gong you out

Love how Mark Doran has the quiz for the kids only.......my god, these kids are only 8 9 + 10....they sure do know their sport, and they sound so cute......Credit to Mark D. on the way he speaks with the kids, he has a really kind manner with them.....I believe in giving credit where due....

Maybe not lately, but during the footy season last year it sounded like there were digs and barbs being thrown by both sides. I think it was KB who came up with 'Finey's Feral Siren' (an absolute pearler of a show!), and Mark didn't think too much of it. It all makes for good theatre though, so dunno if it's genuine or not.

How long has he been doing that for?
I agree sounds like a good idea!

Good work to Mark!
