Thank you Archie,
I knew what I read and what I posted .
I was looking at the very article when I posted it here that he was quoted as saying he was not being paid by Sen for his time.
Most annoying and makes him look silly trying to then cover it up.
Papers do make things up but I couldnt for the life of me believe that the Age would suddenly create a story out of thin air criticising Sen for having their overnight team work without a wage and includes quotes from Phillips.
Not sure if he was directed to tell the world or if he had a rethink himself.
I would think it would be a little disheartening when all around you are getting paid for their work and you are not.
Would have you questioning your value to the organisation.
If I tried that in the industry I am in I would have union members out my front gate !

What Brett said on air the other night I think was "I am getting paid". But he didn't say who was paying him. So unless things have changed, the whole thing about raising money through sponsorships on the show might still be right.

His comments the other night were like three weeks after the article Unless anyone has heard different, has he actually questioned what was reported?

I don't know if you heard Dave's embarrassing but HILARIOUS cover of Working Class Man a few weeks back, but you have to admit the man provides some champagne radio. He's great value. (If anyone managed to record that song, hook me up with it).

And icemen, your love of BP is getting out of hand, and I'm a big fan of him too. BP addressed the financial situation last night, he does indeed get paid and runs his own business (check out his website BAP communications). I like the way he fielded the caller's NBA questions last night, finally someone who has some knowledge of NBA (along with Mark Franklin). He was reading off a stats sheet and looking at the conference standings, sure, but he does watch it when he can. If Tony was hosting that call would have never went to air.

If you're reading this BP, wouldn't mind a bit more NBA talk off the top of the show, maybe add an NBA segment sometime between 12 and 1.
The issue I have with Dave is that he harps on about the same issue every night.BTW anyone heard Bartlett's little whiny Xmas send off ,what a pig headed AFL apologist he is.

Okay I don't think i've heard Billy on the air tonight....so did he make it to the Feddish Bar???

-Ben

No, he didn't make it.

Don't know what happened with rest of the gang later on, I just ended up getting home by 2 this morning.

What happened to BP getting him a taxi so he would come for sure??? I guess you can't force him to go but you would think he would want to....

Unless he looks like a freak...

True, I suspect Bill just didn't take up the offer.

Okay fellas everyones done their best of the year list so here is mine for SEN.

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu: 3 Votes - Casual Fridays - ****ing funny, always interesting and Rippa Rita not afraid to say what needs saying. Harf is always solid too and Doran seems to show much more personality when this show is on than he does the rest of the week.

:thumbsu::thumbsu: 2 Votes - Saturday Spotlight - Great combination of Pickers and Marko, always worth a laugh or two. Amazing how good this show is cause IMHO Marko and Pickers can struggle with other co-hosts but work really well together.

:thumbsu: 1 Vote - On the Rise - Harf and Richo should have a better time for this show which is much better than what you hear most of the week on SEN. Hope they keep this and saturday spotlight on during the footy season but aint holding my breath.

3 votes - Saturday Spotlight - the best chemistry between hosts of any show on sen and bloody funny aswell, its like marco and pickers are at a pub and thats what makes it so good :thumbsu:

2 - OWAAT - solid show, great knowledge of US sport and also not afraid to get into some good soccer talk, music requests go down a treat :thumbsu:

1 - Born In The USA - even if you hate US sport you will still like this show because thats how good it is :thumbsu:

honorable mention to crunch time which i thought was a really good show and helped ease the pain of no spotlight during the footy season

SEN Personality Of The Year - Robbo - i hate journos so to have him as my fav guy on sen this year just shows how much i enjoyed his stuff, this bloke loves his footy and isnt scared to say what he thinks, guys like the OX and watson could learn a thing or 10

agree 100%

Robbo is a gun, doesn't hold back at all...the 1hr he is on with Doran almost makes his show worthwhile.

Finey also did a great job this year...Finey's final siren was great.

3. votes for Anthony Hudson and anything he does at Sen best of the football callers IMO
2. votes for Fineys Final Siren always worth listening after being at a game , love his arguments with callers.
1.vote for the OX who is much better on SEN than on Seven .

Drop or no votes at all to

Billy Brownless mindless dumb drop kick
Mark Doran doesnt do it for me
To much American sport being talked about like its something we love ,who the hell knows who the San Jose Sharks are and can name a player from their team.

If anyone from SEN management reads this thread can you please remove the absolute <insert many swear words here> you have on "The Good, the bad and the ugly show. You know the one - the ******** that just SCREAMS into the microphone the whole time.

FFS why would anyone want to listen to a complete idiot just YELLING at that time in the morning. SEN goes straight off for me. YOU CAN'T LISTEN TO IT. FULL STOP!

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE BLOKE I'M TALKING ABOUT???????

Dont think anyone takes any notice of what you write here .
That screaming guy Milne was even on the Friday night Gladiators show as well last Friday.
They even introduced him as a SPECIAL guest , if they think he is special then they are scraping the barrell .
letting him ruin their show as well with his over the top childish one trick after everyone here pointed out his novelty act has worn off .

Here's my bests for 2007. I reckon I listen to SEN at least 5 or 6 hours a day, provide me with so much entertainment. At times it can be a bit too much AFL, but the mix isn't far off.

Best Show:

Saturday Spotlight:
As mentioned by some in this thread before, a terrific show which is almost unmissable these days. Marko and Pickers do a great a job and it's always informative and humourous. Media Watch is just about my favourite segment on radio and these two just get the mix right.

Honourable mentions to On The Rise and Brett Phillips in the afternoons.

Worst Show:

The Good Oil
: How Mark Doran still hosts a show that spans four hours is beyond me. It is clear that he is unpopular and the fact that he plays replays for the large majority of his show - Summer Time and Replay of the Day, plus Matt Thompson's half hour sports update means he doesn't really do much anyway. He is shit and has no knowledge besides AFL and Cricket. Extremely annoying.

Nick Slade's three hours of terror with Luke O'Brien a few weeks ago is also well up there.

Best Decision of the Year:

Getting rights for Footy/Cricket
: Something SEN needed to do for a while, and with the addition of broadcast rights for AFL and Cricket they have improved big time. Sometimes they can be too AFL based, but without the rights, I'm not sure how SEN would survive now. The calling team for footy is really good. The Cricket is also very entertaining - I didn't think adding Bill Brownless to the team was a good idea, but he was bloody good from the 20/20!

Worst Decision of the Year:

Giving Beva the arse/Getting rid of WSO
: Tough to split these two. Getting rid of Beva was a brainfade of mass preportions. A guy who was well-rounded with his sports knowledge, such a rarity at SEN in most guys. Had a terrific program and was one of SEN's best. When SEN decided to stop broadcasting WSO, they made a huge mistake. Thankfully they have rectified that with All Night Sport, largely due to the bad feedback they got. SEN needs to be 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Best Footy Caller:

Matt Granland:
An awesome addition to the footy team. I can't get the "Geelong finally are the greatest team of all" out of my head but a superb pick up from 3AW. A really good descriptor of the game play by play and always makes for good listening. Has gone from being a reporter on 3AW to hosting Morning Glory and calling footy. Good move for him.

Best Newcomer:

James Willoughby:
This guy is seriously good. Seems knowledgeable on just about every topic and really loves his world game. Starting to pop up on air more and more and has a serious/funny side and mixes it well. Seems he gets alot of praise on here and Andy Maher was pumping him up not long ago on the Morning Glory. I think he's rather young and I think we'll hear a real lot of him in the future on SEN.

Changes you'd like to see in 2008:

  • Tim Watson gone
  • Mark Doran gone
  • Brett Phillips in prime time
  • Overnights back on Weekends
  • More Liam Pickering
  • More James Willoughby
  • Less Mark Fine

Love to see what others say for the same categories. Pretty sad that I've written that much on SEN, shows how much I bloody love the station!!!
