The Spoon

WCE need the spoon so as to receive a better chance of selecting a player who can help take the club forward. I personally couldn't care less if the Eags get the spoon.

If WC get the spoon, they should trade their pick 4 and something else to ensure they get a top 3 pick to get H.Bennell.

Yeah right, one player is going to turn things around. You could swing in half the Geelong team into our side and watch them get destroyed by the Junta making the calls on game day and practically watch the skills drop off exponentially with our skills coaching.

Damn, I know I sound negative but how many more seasons in a row do we accept abject and complete failure ?

Adelaide beating Melbourne

Adelaide ahead by 37 points halway through the 4th.
This means they move above us and it is only us and Richmond stuck on 3 wins!
The spoon draws nearer.

We are in deep, deep do do people!

Next week chances are we will be last, we play Pies and Tigers play Swans.

And how is this for troubling, the next 9 rounds just have a look who Richmond, Crows and Dees play and should win a couple of:

Tigers play Swans, Freo MCG, Norths, Crows MCG, Dees, Blues and Port MCG. Don't give them a chance v Pies or Saints.

If the Crows beat us at Subi in two weeks the spoon is ours. Crows also play home games v Essendon next week, Port and Dogs. 2 possible wins there. Away they play us, Tigers, Lions, Pies and Saints.

Dees are 6 points ahead already and play Essendon, Swans, Tigers, Blues and North at home, should win one of those. Also play Saints, Freo, Lions and Port.

Eagles play Pies, Crows, Essendon, Blues, Freo, Lions, Port, North and Cats. If we win two of these I'd be surprised.:(

Yes could be ours , Adelaide are too strong a team to win the spoon !
Richmond might choke but they are the new Richmond now , maybe Melbourne or Port might not win again with five wins

That's the spirit!

Well if your no chance in making finals the next best is bottom, that way your actually getting something for the year that's going to push us foward for the future. Freo did it last year.

WC f**ked it up last year when they had picks 2 and 4 all sewn up - imagine Trengrove and Morabito in eagle colours now. Then play the youngsters this year, finish in the bottom 3 as would have happened - take pick 4, 6 or 8 and include Brown to GC for an upgrade to pick 2 and take Bennell. Trade out McKinley for a 2nd round pick (probably around 35), and Spangher for a 3rd rounder (probably around 45) and combine it with WC's 2nd rounder (around 27) for a pick in the late teens.
Add these 2 selections together with the upgrades of Stephenson, Strijk and Hams as the 5 ins. The outs are Wilkes, Spangher, McKinley, Brett Jones and McGinnity.

What might have been with some sensible planning

Hams is cooked. Stick a fork in him, he's done.

Sheppard > Morabito
Martin > Trengove

Anyhow. It looks like it will be close. I see 5 or 6 wins for us. 6 or 7 for Richmond.

Agreed. I love Sheps and Martin is awesome.

My pride doesn't want us to come last though, but pick 6 is going to be no where near as good as 4 so I'm conflicted.

Disagree. Nobody knows picks 4, 5, 6 ect at this stage. Parker and Green look like good prospects but thier are other strong prospects.

Sorry but this is so wrong its funny.

Go and list the top 6 players and have a think about it.

The first two look likely to be WA lads in Swallow, Bennell and then you have the best KP forward in Day from the sounds of it.

Pick 4 versus pick 6 you will still get a very good player and as previous drafts suggest the club who does their homework and can develop players will make either pick into a very good player.

Even with the 17 yr olds signed up by GC17 this years draft is reported to be a good crop, better than last year.

TBH I'm prepared to receive a few wooden spoons from my mates if it means we are half a chance to pick up Bennell, it will take a fair bit of luck and maybe a pick upgrade to do it but thats life.

Stuff it, Cox + pick 4 to GC for pick 2 and pick 5

Keep Lynch to help NN ruck and get Bennell and another gun fast, skillfull mid.

I reckon GC would go for that - the only problem is that I dont believe WC would

If it did happen i'd probably take bennell at 2 and parker at 5.

If Parker is available @ 5 then he's available @ 4 if WC finish last. This means that WC are basically trading Cox for Bennell. Cant see WC trading out a player of Cox's stature within the club unless the trade is so one sided they cant refuse and I'm not sure WC would put this trade into this category

Looking at sportsbet, eagles are $1.70 favourites to win the spoon, richmond are $3.00 atm. I think the odds should be more close.

Tigers are the flavour of the month. They win a few games and suddenly people are saying they're not that bad. But they're still last on the ladder. If WC win a couple games in the next few rounds then the tigers will be favs again.

We're only 2 wins off 10th.

It particularly seems a bit harsh considering they are probably holding lots of cash for Richmond as they have been favourites all season. You would think they would want a bit more cash for West Coast to even that out. Maybe there has been a huge plunge for us over the past month or two?

Think your forgetting one Brandon Matera as well

Good call, they'll need to throw in MAtera as a sweetener:D:thumbsu:, we will throw in Spangher.:p

They've already got him signed as a 17yr old, they don't need to use a draft pick on him.

Those bastards :(

Would love to see the Matera name back at West Coast where it belongs
