Interesting post. It might be correct.

A customer of mine is part of a horse racing syndicate with Dale Thomas and Dane Swan. He told me several months ago that Dale Thomas told him at a syndicate function that his ankles are shot and that he will be lucky to last another year in the AFL.

Collingwood apparently offered him $300,000 over 3 years on the condition he had surgery which would put him out for the entire 2014 season.

It would seem that if his ankles are inded fine, he has been playing a charade in order to get to Carlton. Wouldn't be the first time that this has happened. But, given that Collingwood sought the advice of not just 1 surgeon( as was the case with Steve Johnston) but 3 surgeons, it would take the charade to epic proportions.

Just makes me wonder why Collingwood offered so little for a top 5 player at the club. Time will tell of course.
This made my day. Really? Wow.could be m mguane all over again. But who plays the natty Hogg role?

Just about every amount i've seen put forward that Collingwood 'supposedly' offered Thomas has been different. I've seen everything from 200k-500k bandied about. What this tells me is that no one has a clue what he's been offered, nor any idea on Thomas' condition. Its all heresay and made up numbers. What we do know is that Thomas has been checked out by us and we're happy enough to offer over 600k per season.

I feel happy that Carlton has gone over the situation in the best way they can, and that we feel confident enough to offer him a healthy contract. Anything could happen from here, he could come back and get 3 votes for us round 1 and we'd be laughing. Football is always risks, and i think if we felt there was a big risk involved we wouldn't be going down this path.

My faviroute line, which I heard the other day was a poster said "I've heard on the medical grape vine"

It made me laugh, like their is a rumour mill amongst medical professionals who would prefer to risk their reputation and careers just so they could trade banter on a big footy forum.

We have the best facilities in the state for rehabilitation. A quality medical staff, and have publicly stated that we have put him through three or more different tests and are happy with the results.

Collingwood posters are trying to take the gloss off what is a major coup for this club, a signing that will re asert our midfield credentials and re-invigerate a list which has stagnated over the last two years.

Just letting you know what transpired. The guy who told me the story is a Carlton supporter. He also told me he would be pissed off if Carlton did the deal. "Hope he stays at f**** Collingwood" were his parting words.

Anyway if the risk works out well for Carlton, you've picked up a top 20 AFL player.

Several months ago?? WOW.

That comes as a surprise when i look back through your posting history and see a few supportive posts for Daisy when he was rumoured to be leaving and being discussed in general a lot less than several months ago and not once did you ever mention this anywhere but all of a sudden you are running with it. You would think this would be the first thing you would tell your own board.

Yeah i am smelling a rat which does not surprise me.

By several months ago, I mean late August. Secondly, I don't post much on Big Footy, particularly the last few years. And thirdly, I did post on the Collingwood board what transpired. Perhaps you mised it.

It was a story that was related to me. I can't verify that it is 100% correct as I didn't directly hear the conversation between Daisy and the gentleman involved.

If you choose not to believe it, fine. I can assure you I am not making the story up, as it actually happened, exactly how I related the story on your board.

The thing that makes me think it to be true, is this Carlton supporting customer of mine is a 'nobullshit, take no prisoners' sort of guy. And the fact that Collingwood have made no real effort to keep Daisy, particularly when they opened up a lot of salary cap space.

From the AFL Website Trade Radio tracker:

  1. 3.30pm: Carlton update.

Football manager Andrew McKay says paperwork will be lodged for Shaun Hampson to Richmond for the Tigers' second round pick in the next few hours.
Deal is all but done. Thanked Hampson for his contributions to the club.
Didn't shut the door on Heath Shaw but ruled out Alan Didak as an option.
Said the Blues would be silly not to explore recruiting Paul Chapman.

So when you say "several months ago" you mean "one month ago".
With that kind of accuracy, we can only assume when you say "ankles are shot" you mean "ready to go round 1 next year".

Gotcha.

Shane McInnes@shanemcinnes9m
Apologies- heard wrong. Blues not ruling Chapman out. Didak a no at Carlton.

Poor Shane McInnes.
Must still have Ross Lyons words ringing in his ears. Lol

It is a true story, you can believe what you like.

If semantics are at stake, I would suggest that August is not last month as we are currently in October and the last month was September.

Maybe Carlton have discovered a miracle cure.

ORRRRR maybe you are just a big fat stinky liar with a major case of sour grapes. I guess we can revisit Round 2 next year when Mr Thomas touches up your mob with 30 possies & 3 goals.

How can it be a true story if you've used the word apparently in it?

Yes its a story, well done. And from this section of the library too.

In all seriousness, do you believe an AFL player (any AFL player) would make an off the cuff remark about his future playing prospects to anyone outside of close family & the inner sanctum of his football club? Your claims sound no different to the claims made by a poster on here a couple of years ago that Marc Murphy's career was over, on the basis of a conversation allegedly overheard at a physio's rooms.

No AFL club, I repeat, no AFL club would sign any player to a 4 year, $2.5m contract without ensuring a thorough medical examination is undertaken. AFL clubs can no longer afford to indulge in such reckless behaviour. No AFL coach, nor list manager would be stupid enough to risk their career in this way.
