That really makes the lack of mention of Brad Johnson in this thread quite comical.

Brad Johnson
Games......20
Av Disp.....19.2
Av marks....7.8
Av Tack.....1.75
Tot Goals.....54
Av Goals....2.7

What's his average over the past 6 weeks? That's probably what's sticking in people's minds right now.

his numbers are ok but to be fair most people and that includes bulldog's fans have become more than aware of how selfish brad has become as a footballer.

Scarlett below Glass
Also Abletts been the best performed player this season.

Why do Geelong supporters get so indignant about this? Scarlett is a class act, absolutely no doubt, but it isn't just West Coast supporters that put Glass ahead of Scarlett. Even On the Couch the other night they mentioned Glass as probably being favourite for AA.

I will happily concede it is a VERY close contest between the two, but why do Geelong fans act like it's the dumbest thing they've ever heard whenever someone mentions it?

First of all Mike Sheehan said Glass AND Scarlett were ahead of Rutten for All Australian, nothing about Glass being better. and Even it they did say Glass, the general consensus of people and not media, have Scarlett in there AA teams.

Whats the big problem?? If you had to pick a team out of all of the players in the competition Glass and Scarlett would both be in there.

I'd play Glass on the biggest guy there is ( ie Gherig,) and Scarlett on the second tall. Scarlett would smash the second forward in every team, get a million possesions and run off every time the ball got to the back line. This is whats going to happen in the AA team. Would be silly not too.

brad sewell and jordan lewis before peter bell yes
brad sewell and jordan lewis before steve johnson NO

Steve Johnson has been so important for geelong this year, he is their x factor and performs on a consistant basis

How about No.

Peter Bell got injured in round 1 this year. He didn't play after quarter time.

If you remove that game he is averaging 23.0 Disposals per game. He has the same number of goals as Brent Harvey for the year and 2 more than Gary Ablett. Its easier to compare his year to these two superstars and see he falls short, but only just.

He's had a better year than Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell. Some will argue they were better, and i can appreciate their year, but he is definately at least on par with those two.

Jordan Lewis has been the 3rd best midfielder at Hawthorn, and possibly the 4th/5th best player at Hawthorn. You can't have Lewis/Sewell in a top 30 list with Franklin, Hodge, C.Brown and Mitchell as well.

Peter Bell is 2nd at Fremantle to only Matthew Pavlich and will give him a run for his money on the best and fairest. In fact i can see a very close contest this year for the doig medal.

So trust me when i say that Lewis/Sewell/S.Johnson have had nowhere near the impact of Peter Bell this year. He takes the number 1 tagger every game and still manages to have a massive impact.

Same. It's nice to have quiet achievers.

Tarkyn Lockyer has been fantastic for us, and Scotty Burns has been a super-hero (in terms of TOG, I reckon he'd be #1 for clearances in the comp).

I may have made the mistake of no Mcleod, there are no Collingwood players because they get by through team work, not individual brilliance.

Kade Simpson is in there because he has stood up when the leaders of his team have failed.

He has been inspirational, for a light bodied player he has put himself in the line of fire.

You're overrating his season IMO (I'd only have him DEFINITELY ahead of the bolded names). I don't think anyone's disputing that he's a very good player. While he has had some incredible games in the 2nd half of the season, his early season form was average and throughout the season he has lacked consistency to be a top 10. I would also have Mitchell and Buddy ahead of him from a Hawthorn perspective this year.

No, I think you (and plenty of others) are underrating Luke Hodge's season.
He would be leading our best and fairest count if they tallied the votes right now.

Hodge has been highly consistent all year - he has usually been our best player when we've lost, so in those games, he receives less credit than had we won.

He has plugged gaps all over the field - early on, he was a rock at HB playing a lockdown defensive role, he won us a few games off his own boot when thrown forward, he won us games by turning on a third qtr of absolute dominance out of the centre.

He has played team football all year, but because he hasn't won easy kicks in the midfield and figured prominently in the dreamteams, people mark him down for some reason.

Besides, Hodge doesn't need to get the ball 30 times like other players.
Most of his touches are pure gold.

Trust me mate, I've watched plenty of Hawthorn games in 2007 and guys like Brown, Sewell, Mitchell, Lewis and Franklin have had great seasons, but Hodge has been better than all of them.

He's one of those guys who everybody expects to play well and if he doesn't get BOG then people think he hasn't done much.

Goodes has not been one of the top 30 performers of 07 though. The last 3 or so weeks he has been brilliant but he has had an average year.

Sub him for Milburn!:thumbsu:
