this draft isnt the one to go all-in for, i was watching the talent in this draft and i had to upgrade some of the ones i had as 1st-2nd rd into the 1st rd of my lists, meaning the quality isnt deep or great this draft, slightly below average compared to previous years ive looked into.....
I haven't even gotten excited about the profiles, which are usually very positive.

Thanks for that info Davo-27 , been overseas for the last three months I'm not on top of everything re-drafts, but we may be looking for future first and second round picks instead?
My point was that AC and gw may think we won't be competing for another couple of years so Vickery /Henderson type trades would be useless for us in this point of time.
But if we can snag a Kennedy /Whitfield /Balic types then it would make sense, especially if youre saying this year's draft is weak.

Whitecross does he have another year left or out of contract? If he had another year, we could delist and then draft as a rookie list creating another space on primary list......

Whitecross, Miles or O'Rourke could all be candidates for a moving to the rookie list via delisting if senior list spots were required.

EDIT: given Whitecross/Miles are already contracted for 2019 and thus will still be on Hawthorn's list next year if not traded out.

Miles is still contracted for another year, though I'd probably put him in the delist category if he wasn't. Whitey could find his way somewhere else as an experienced head, O'Rourke will be given another chance considering the draft quality this year.

Bad hangover at the Doggies by the looks of it. No-one played anywhere near the level of their flag winning season bar Macrae. Issues with their big money signing, injuries and form of other players. Now rumoured Stringer wants out. Happy for the Hawks to pick at the carcass.

Unless a trade occurs for Whitecross or Miles, all 3 will be on the list next year. The players I can see getting delisted are Willsmore & Heatherly (on top of the Fitzpatric, Surman, Hodge & Gibson retirements), with the likes of Stratton, Birchall, Puopolo & Duryea all on the trade table. Guys like Smith, Gunston, Frawley, Sheils and Breust shouldn't feel too safe either.

Is there interest in Heatherly from other clubs?

I think the umps helped them a lot too. Remember they finished 7th in the H&A and was it 104 tackles we made in our final against them for not one holding the ball or incorrect disposal.

True if you take that into consideration, the fall is not that surprising (along with a massive free kick for differential over the entire season).

One does wonder if they AFL has a script at the start of each season (which hawthorn have re-written a few times). Clarko said it himself, "Thank you to the AFL for letting us put on a show....", in one of his grand final podium speeches.

Yeah but you know, freekickhawthorn and all that jazz

I think the umps paid 3 frees actually...so the other 101 tackles werent paid...

All I remember from that game was throw after throw from Macrae, Dahlhaus and Liberatore without being pinged. The worst part was that it looked like they were going to be tough on it leading into the finals, and then all of a sudden there was no incorrect disposal rule.

Week before the headlines were all about how well the Dogs tackled the Weagles

The game remidned me of a british bulldogs style keepings off where the dogs ran in packs literally 'crow-throwing' the ball between them and evertime we caught them and they dropped it, it was play on, and with quite often us having two or three commit to the tackle, they then had the free numbers to pick it up, dish it off and keep the rolling maul going up the ground.

Going early on Miles, I think. Guy needs at least one more preseason before we judge him IMHO
