I'm not sure we'll delist anyone this year. Next year will be a list of 44, minimum of 38, right? Considering our rookies as normal listed, like they will be next year, we've got 45 with the two international rookies, right? They don't count? So 43 listed players under the new rules.

We've had four retire from the game. 39.

We seem like we'll trade at least 1 away. 38.

That means we can pick up six? Or at least four players depending on how the international rookies are treated. In order to trade in we'll have to trade out as we have little else to offer.

So it seems to me we don't need to delist anyone to make room. We may as well keep everyone and see if they improve.

Yes? No?

Has Dallas done enough to deserve another year?

I don't know, really. I'm more coming from the perspective that whether he "deserves" it or not is almost irrelevant. With our departures confirmed and possible, I'm not sure we actually need any list space. In fact we may threaten being too short of players. In which case we may as well keep him (or any on the edge player) because you don't know how they'll develop.

Hard to saw what players 'deserve' sometimes. No-one was jumping on the Hardwick bandwagon earlier this year - now he's my favourite up and coming Hawk. Some players need to be thrown into the deep end before you can truly judge them.

I don't think he gets another year, he's been around a while and they've given him a few games at the level which he wasn't able to grab with both hands. I think that's it for the kid.

Im on board that Dallas has shown SFA at senior level. I instantly think back to Suckers first 5-10 games...he was pretty ords and that is who Dallas gets compared to. Flip of the coin.

Suckling was lucky that we were strong enough to potentially carry him purely for his kicking ability, Dallas doesn't have that convenience.

We will delist players and we'll make quite a bit of change to the list overall.

Vickery has interest. It remains to be seen if it eventuates to anything though.
Interest from other clubs? Or interest in having a crack and going hard when it's his turn?

He has the skills, but the effort seems to be lacking. Maybe he needs a coach from outside the Clarko academy (although that really limits the options)?

Another Melbourne club.

Last time we missed finals we turned over 22 players in two seasons

I'm more excited about the possibility of us going full on for two years at the draft more than landing a big fish or even a half eaten one!
No need to give up too much coin and a very good player for another, rather we go beast mode at the draft like we did 12 years ago.

The draft sucks - trading and free agency is where we do our damage. Wrighty does a way better job late in the draft anyway haha.

It's probably worth mentioning that in those 22 list changes were the trades for Hale, Gibson and some kid called Burgoyne

Id rather trade for a ready made, middle aged kid that fits into the same age bracket as O'meara + Mitchell.
Draft is never a certainty.
Having said that, giving up first round picks you need to bring back some serious quality and nothing short of that.

Holy Rioli has hit the nail on the head. A club like GWS has two issues, talent retention due to salary cap and ready made players for weaknesses.

They can deal with this via using surplus talent

This is why Poppy to GWS for a player back in a trade that appears cheap is likely, because Hawks are a team that has spare cap, and this is one way to use it to fill our list needs.

People were upset that we paid some of Mitch's salary last year, they claimed we traded Mitch and Lewis to fit Ty into the cap last year.

Something like this is where it's at. Having cap room is another weapon come the offseason for list manager's and despite what the sheep in the media bleat it doesn't have to all be spent on buying free agents

this draft isnt the one to go all-in for, i was watching the talent in this draft and i had to upgrade some of the ones i had as 1st-2nd rd into the 1st rd of my lists, meaning the quality isnt deep or great this draft, slightly below average compared to previous years ive looked into.....
