I got in at around 7am a bit over a month ago. The line going through security to my connecting flight was insane.

The crazy thing about LAX was that i declared food i had bought in but they couldn't give two shits about it...all they had after customs were two guys collecting your declaration cards and moving you on, no bag checks...not a thing.

Haha, fair enough. Cheers for the advice mate.

I've figured out how to get to the terminals and such, and have already checked-in for my flights, so hopefully can make a smooth transition between boarding points.

Anyway, time to leave :)

I remember when i first came over i was worried about that too. But everything is clearly marked and it's never been any problem despite going to dozens of U.S airports.
I'm still over here for another few weeks in Philly...heading to NYC again for my birthday weekend in a week or so. NYC in winter is awesome, definitely a must do if you get the chance.

Funny you should say Phily and NYC. I'm spending 2 nights each there.

Staying at a great joint too in NYC, The New Yorker, right accross from Madison Square Garden :D

Sitting in the airport at the moment. Just had a scare by the QANTAS guys saying that I needed to print off my ESTA thingy, but I just checked the website for the millionth time and its NOT required.

Oh well, I got authorized, thats all I know :)

New York is a must see. I found it to be a really interesting city. LA on the other hand was a shithole.

If you are going through to Vegas you should try and get across to the Grand Canyon. It is one of those sites that actually is larger than it looks on TV. Breathtaking.

Stop in at Niagra for a day when heading up to Toronto. The falls are also worth seeing. Not much to Toronto though.

Totally agree. Also Monument Valley is breathtaking. Loved it.

Check out last minute specials with Trek America. I did their Southern Sun tour from NY-LA in 21 days. Was brilliant.

Originally had planned to drive it myself meeting ppl in hostels etc but just didn't have the time or budget.

Reading your posts is getting me pumped up. I leave on Saturday from Brisbane :thumbsu:

I stayed in a hostel in Harlem last month for $19 a night. It was good and even provided a breakfast. You can easily do America on $5000 for 28 days if you stay in hostels and eat cheap all the time. We ate breakfast at the hostel, bought a big slice of pizza for $3 for lunch and usually found somewhere reasonably priced for dinner.

Good to hear. This is at the top of my list, for obvious reasons (John Wayne).

Planning to go over early next year so this thread has been a good read. :thumbsu:

Qantas has about 60 movies that you can choose. Ranging from recent releases to classics. Don't know about games but also good CDs available plus TV shows.

If they isn't anything you like then you are way too choosy.

Entertainment on the Qantas A380 is heaps better than their 747. So if you fly QF to LA, try and get on the A380. Search for the A380 thread too. :D

Booked on an A380 leaving Sydney Sunday for LA but back on a 747.

I just love the travelling overseas. Its a bit like drugs, once your on the travel bug thats it game over.

Nice, i'm heading to the Garden on the 6th to watch the Knicks vs Nets. Always an awesome place to be.

San Francisco is by far the best city Ive been to in America, I think its the perfect city and there is a heap of touristy things to do..Alcatraz, cable car, golden gate bridge etc and its such a clean and neat city.

The good thing with the US is every city/ town is completely different, and most of them have something worthwhile paying to see.

You will have the best fun road- trippin across the country, if you want to meet a heap of people stay in hostels, not only cheap but guaranteed to meet people who wanna go out for a drink, and usually end up with some pretty crazy stories.

I found Homeless people everywhere around Union Square and there are no go zones particually the Tenderloin where prostitutes and drug dealers rule. How was the weather when you went? I had a few days when it was really humid and cloudy and the city stunk but on the days it was sunny it was a great place.

Definitly do Alcatraz and go to the top of Coit Tower for great views which not many people do suprisingly.

Pity that both those teams suck but enjoy the experience at the Garden.

Going to Staples Centre to see LA Lakers vs Utah Jazz on the 9th. We got tickets @ US $155- each:eek:. We didn't want nose bleeds and thems the break.

Both must do and if you have a car do Lombard Street just for the heck of it. Have done Alcatraz during the day and also at night. Night tour was an eerie experience.

San Fran one of my favourite USA cities.

Also if you do San Fran you MUST hire a bike and ride over the Golden Gate Bridge, they have a spcific bike path on the bridge so you dont get run over by cars (which helps cause helmets arent compulsary so I was enjoying being back in the 80s again)

There is a little town on the other side called Sausalito where you can stop and have lunch, then put the bike on the ferry and come back to the main land.

Cool fun day out!

First day in LA we got tickets to the USC v UCLA game at the Collesium then the next day on the Sunday we got.. wait for it the game of the century.... Grizzlies @ Clippers .

Our first weekend in LA in 2007, the UCLA V USC game was on. Tickets were too expensive though. The buzz around the city was amazing. We spent the day at Disneyland but everyone was talking about the game!

Nice. I actually saw Lakers vs Jazz at Staples as well, but back in the 2007/08 season. This is my second game at MSG. I love getting to any sports games. I've been lucky to see some cool things...Phil Jackson trying Red Auerbach in regular season wins, Yankees winning for the first time in their new stadium..... last time at MSG i met Stephon Marbury and Jamal Crawford. Hopefully next week i can see the Nets extend their record losing streak further ;)

My dream to drive in a Mustang from the west to east coasts just like in the movies.

Money.:(

Then again we always want to travel to the other side of the world when we have it here in our own backyard.

Travelling Australia is another dream of mine.

I'd love to do the coast to coast thing as well, Go from NYC to LA the northern route and come back the southern....or vice versa. Oneday....

Looking to move over to the Grand USA, My Girlfriend is from New Milford in Connecticut, about 90 mins from NYC. Was wondering how are the jobs over that way? Will I be able to find some casual employment? What is the cost of living over there?

I'm considering the same thing and have the exact same question's..Might be worth a thread on it's own.

Though I am also considering Canada
