Incumbent candidates have struggled globally since the inflation surge (I'm pretty sure an incumbent hasn't won an election since inflation started going wild), so the Dems had that going against them. But they really need to figure out how to better control narratives if they want to remain politically viable. Their economy actually performed better under Biden than any other developed nation, but it didn't matter because the Dems are ****ing terrible at controlling the narrative. Part of that is because they have no idea how to navigate social media whereas the right is really ****ing good at it. For as much as people like to meme on Musk for buying Twitter, this election result absolutely vindicated it for him (even if it's a financial black hole). They need to figure out how to control the vibes or they're gonna keep losing elections that they shouldn't be losing.

Also, their messaging on Trump was all over the place. You can't talk about how someone is an existential risk to democracy but present the message by way of civility politics. It sends massive mixed signals to people who are undecided. If you want people to believe that he's an existential risk then the presentation of the message actually needs to match its content. You can't just call someone a fascist like you're discussing minor tax reform.

They want to be able to vet the people coming into their country to make sure bad people aren't amongst those coming in and I think every country has the right to be picky about who they let in if that is their desire.

They vetted a few people in Operation Paperclip.

If they deport 30 million illegals the price of fruit and vegetables will increase. If they put tariffs on imports prices will increase. So much for ending inflation.

There is still the legacy of the first Trump administration. The national debt has risen by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump’s time in office. That’s nearly twice as much as what Americans owe on student loans, car loans, credit cards and every other type of debt other than mortgages, combined, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. It amounts to about $23,500 in new federal debt for every person in the country.

Trumps new tax cuts are costed at 29.9 Trillion dollars. That's ok when you have a six times bankrupt as President.

Maybe Joe Biden Was Right: He Could've Beaten Donald Trump

People vote with emotion more than anything else. Add in guns/constitution and abortion, and it's not a surprise that so many people.vote this way, even though it's probably worse for them personally.

I know he didn't because of what happened with his son, but I often wonder how different things would be if Biden was the candidate over Hillary in 2016.

the Harris campaign did not go nearly hard enough on this. People blame Biden for inflation when he inherited a train wreck, and the DNC basically just let this go unchecked

Probably would have been blamed for Covid and voted out in 2020

very strange analyst, considering how much the dems were in bed with the tech companies. I don't think its because they don't know how to navigate social media, they can/will/have gotten those companies to change algorithms in their favour.
I think it's more because the people they've chosen are completely unrelatable to the general population of America.
I mean the names that have been thrown up in this thread, do people really think Newsom would've held ground with the steel workers? Trump would've had a field day with him too.

Daniel Harris is very disappointed with his "Mom" today. :stern look

Do you think 10th generational latino farmers in New Mexico worry about the same issues as Venezuelans fleeing socialism?
Pollsters have about the same credibility as a kpmg comm games proposal that Andrews paid for.
race based analysis is pitiful.

This was a similar theme here when we had the influx of boat people, legal migrants were upset these people were queue skipping which meant their friends/relatives who wanted to migrate would get pushed further back due to illegal arrivals.

Even though I think the majority who came here were legitimate asylum seekers who fled their country of origin due to wars or persecution, they passed a lot of safe havens on their way to get here and a lot of people felt you shouldn't be afforded the same rights as those who flee to the closest safe haven.

Nobody who migrated to the USA legally has anything to worry about and even Trump said in his acceptance speech that America will be open to migrants during his presidency, but you have to come over legally. They want to be able to vet the people coming into their country to make sure bad people aren't amongst those coming in and I think every country has the right to be picky about who they let in if that is their desire.
I used to work for immigration compliance and the vast majority of dob ins were from people within their own community. It takes years and thousands of dollars to get residency. They hate it when others are perceived to be scamming the system

Thats ****ing crazy.. voting themselves to be booted from the country.. wow
"Latino" is a category invented for the US census, it's not a real identity. It contains within it groups that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. White Spaniard Cuban exiles, Mestizos, Brazilian portuguese speakers, black Haitians, white people with Spanish surnames whose families have lived in the sun belt since it was a part of Mexico... many of them are just white americans and see themselves that way.

Another fascinating takeaway is that in the head to head battle between Taylor Swift and JD Vance, both cultural icons in their own right before politics, Vance won.
TBF not sure Id vote for Taylor Swift

In terms of what it's going to mean in Aus,
who reckons Rudd will stay on as the ambassador?
Just wondered, what is the usual term for an ambassador?
He was appointed in 2023 so he should be there for a while? 🤷‍♂️

I would. John Fogerty told us all years ago that “Vance can’t dance but he’ll steal your money”. And JF certainly has a lot of Creedence 🤔👍🎸

But I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain, coming down on a sunny day? 🤔

So sanders is saying to counter the extreme flood of voters to the right, we should go further to the left?

Sure inflation and cost of living was a big issue and you might see a more normal voting pattern return under benign economic conditions, but if you running for president and aren’t seen as

  • tough on immigration
  • tough on “America first” policy

You aren’t winning
That's bullshit, Biden implemented Trump's exact border policy and Harris ran on it, that's never going to be a winning issue for Democrats when the people who support those policies already have republicans to vote for.
