The war against renewable energy

But you said before that you could get 8c at night, which is typically peak time for renewables.

I could see it working for people who can charge during peak solar times, but many people will be at work on those days, and i can't see employers putting thousands of chargers in, and i can't see city car parks investing in chargers unless they will make money out of it.

You seem to think that Fred can go to work, charge his car up to max capacity, go home, discharge it down to 50km range or something.
That's not going to work for most of the population.

At worst an EV would shield you from high peak power rates which are typically around 15c to 20c higher than off peak,
If you typically use an average of 5 kw during peak.

5 x .15kw x 365 = $ 275 a year.

It allows you to shift power use to cheaper rates.

So an industrial battery application is $0.24 a kWh and up to $0.40 kWh ( before the cost of energy)

But your suggestion is depreciate an entire cars battery and control system and justify it by buy low and sell high?

Perhaps with a NIO click in click out but even then how would a car compete with commercial scale?

It isn’t logical

What are you on about?

Small EV battery is 50kw. Use 10% a night during peak periods and you’ll save money.

People are building wind farms to make money.
People are building solar farms to make money.
People like yourself are not buying home infrastructure to lose money.
People are installing large batteries to make money.
People are connecting electricity to the grid, and connecting it to houses, their motivation, money.

If you suggest the majority of Australians can get free electricity under the above circumstances, because they bought a few solar panels, and an EV, somebody is going to be very disappointed.

Using your maths

Buy at $0.08 to $0.14 add low side $0.24 to $0.40 cents for the battery

Sell at $0.30

Loss $0.02 to $0.24 per kwh

Add depreciation of the car on top

The biggest growth in the cycling market through e-bikes appears to be (from my anecdotal observations):
  • older people with dodgy knees able to get around again
  • families with the extended bikes for kids going to school
  • commuters not having to worry about getting changed at work and beating the traffic

You missed all the corporate deliveries and fast food deliveries. Apparently it’s even more of a revolution overseas

Huh? I’m not losing money….

My power bills with out solar and battery would be about 5k a year… I’m now making about 1k a year…
Total cost 30k…. Five year payback.
sorry typo, its meant to say "not"
No one is installing renewables to lose money, so where is your free electricity coming from?

The sun.. after 5-6 years I’ll have free electricity.

I now don’t care when or how much electricity I use. Today I basically had the oven running from midday to dinner time, pool pump on, solar pool pump on, 3 loads of washing and used the dryer because I could… whilst still managing to export at 5kw an hour.

I look at all the electricity that I wouldn’t normally use, because I would be trying to save money and reduce the bill, as free.

So that’s why you claim you would have a $5000 annual bill otherwise. That’s pretty extreme

No … my bills 5 years ago were around 300-350 a month. Power has gone up and where I am in NSW the usage rates are a lot higher than in VIC. i use electric for cooling and heating and the pool cost a lot to run…. Average 5 kWh a day to run the pool pump. 5 x 365 x 40c … $730 … solar pump has used 500kwh this year, so $200.. close to $1000 just to run the pool.

Maybe a go fund me?

The fed coalition made a big thing about unreliability in SA.

They look pretty stupid now

Still makes me laugh… and people actually think the LNP have a plan for nuclear… mental midjets puppeteering for the fossil fuel industry.

Yet we have idiots that still trust them.

Wow they gave you free solar panels.

So all those wind farms and solar farms must have all got free stuff, so they can give all the Australians free electricity in future.
You are right, these are exciting times.

Seems a strange thing to laugh at after some of your suggestions regarding the future.
