I disagree. Most would have a fair idea.
We are talking about a football player moving clubs.
No KGB, MI6, CIA involvement in this one.

You sure about that J & H?

Hope you dont mind me answering, the answer is the optics. All three clubs have been talking to him, everyone knows that but nobody till Bucks put it out there in the light which makes it a certainty. What that caused was embarrassment to the GCS. It's silly but our comp is not mature enough to discuss things openly and prefer things get kept in the shadows till the right "time".

Totally agree Tiger71
As you have reported for the last 12 months appx Tom Lynch is going to Richmond.
The thing that fascinates me is some people in the media or perhaps closer to the lynch camp blaming Buckley for a decision Tom made ages ago.
Perhaps it sells papers?

Let's not forget the time The Age under Carro incorrectly went with the news that Essendon had sacked Hird whilst there was a club board meeting happening. Carro tried to backtrack on footy classified saying that she was told the decision had been made but they must have changed their mind.

In saying that I think we are now long shots to get Lynch and have moved on emotionally. Will just be pleasantly surprised if wrong.

How about Sam Mitchell to West Coast? The story was broken earlier by a BF poster. The media didn't run with it until the day the trade was done.

Start of the trade period a lone SA journo mentioned Adelaide were going to try and get Gibbs. Then there was nothing from the media until the last few days when they went bananas with the story.

Yes ok, I concede. The AFL media know nothing. I’ll just stick to getting my news from BF.
Now, I need to get a job as an AFL journalist. Seems like a great gig.

You couldn't be any worse than this bloke.

The best was Caro on Footy Classifieds going with Swan to leave Pies. Almost the next day, front page "Swan signs with Pies for 3 more years."

Yeah but did she say "don't take it to the bank"? :drunk:

I see your Caro and raise you a Maher. Said Degoey and the pies were miles apart. Re-signed an hour later.

Wanted him for a while, but I don't think we need him now, especially at the cost. Think the game is starting to go away from needing players like that

Rather get someone like May in and develop the guys we have

But problem with maher is when he started his question / statement Collingwood and de Goey were just beginning their discussions; by the time he finished his statement it was weeks later. De Goey all signed up.

Memo to Maher: don't ask such loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg questions

Yeah, we don't need him. Sure, would be nice, but is he necessary to our current structure? No. I didn't even know who he was til earlier this year when speculation started. I got him confused with Tom Lynch from Adelaide, and thought they were the same because I never took much notice of GC players.
If we hadn't been interested, I doubt I would even cared.

This is kind of how I feel now too. I understand that it would be interpreted by many as a bit of face-saving in case we do miss out on him.

I was super keen at the start of the year when I had real concerns about our KPPs.

I still have concerns about our KPPs but not based on the current structure of our forward line which is working as well as it had for many, many years.

Lynch will demand a huge payslip that could now be better spent elsewhere.

BUT.. if we get him he's a star. ;)

What happens if Moore leaves and Cox get;s injured?

I guess Mihock is a tall forward. Yeah, we don't have any tall forwards that's true. Max Lynch? Or hopefully we manage to get some within the trade/draft.
If we did get TL, you'd have to take someone out to put him in. Who would you replace?

Welcome aboard too

:)

Where is the source that Caro said Treloar is going to Richmond?
IIRC She didn't. It was Bartlett who was saying for weeks prior to Treloars announcement that he had it on irreproachable authority that Treloar was a done deal. It was after the announcement and Bartlett and Richmond's meltdown that she felt something underhanded had occurred

That’s up to if GC match or not. It’s not the larger issue I was getting at anyway. If Richmond were to get him for under 900k p.a. I’d be disappointed in us, but if it’s actually for 1.3+ they’d better hope they win the flag in 2019 as the long term damage to their list balance can’t be understated.
We allegedly offered the most $$$ by some amount. So if we don't get him then it is not about the money but playing with his mates
