Only led the AFL in contested marks in 2016...

He's not an prolific contested marking player like say a Travis Cloke was though.
It's not his strength to play in that manner.

Averaging 2 contested marks over your career and 1.4 over the last 2 years isn't "prolific".

100% correct on all fronts.

May I make comment that Unions are there to protect workers rights but are dangerous when trying to run the company. Re Dangerfield trying to campaign for shorter and less games. Let’s see what the tv company’s and sponsors think of that! Maybe he will have to reduce his pay at the same scale the games are reduced by.
Sorry, comment proberley belongs in another thread.

Yep, they’ll be expecting a pay rise, not cut. Fewer games and less game time means fewer ads which means less revenue for the TV networks.

Pretty sure the players will change their mind when they get told these basic economic facts.

I agree completely with you. The amounts allegedly offered to Lynch are ridiculous. Unfortunately we have a track record of making ridiculous offers and being financially irresponsible.

For example, NM offered Greenwood $330,000 for 2 years when he had one good season out of 7. We came over the top and offered $450,000 for 4 years. Kangaroos offered Wells one year at $350,000. We came in and offered $550,000 with no clauses for 3 years despite Wells well known chronic injuries. Fremantle offer Mayne 2 years at $300,000, we come in and offer $500,000 for 4 years. Tom Lynch averages 15 games per season and 9 kicks per game over his 8 seasons to date and a well documented history of knee problems. We have allegedly come over the top again with the biggest offer. I believe he would improve our list but not for the amount we would have to pay him.

On a side note I read today that contract talks with Tom Langdon have stalled and that both parties are a fair distance away.

Langdon, meh. If we ever reached a point where we have a small number of injuries he wouldn’t be in our best 22 and would be playing VFL

The defence is definitely where we need more in quality and quantity. We seem to have a lot of players in that 3rd tall kinda size ie Dunn Shaz Maynard Langdon Murphy Howe Madgen.

I think we need a Quality Sturdy mature aged key Backman. Example of this is Scott Thompson. Would happily give him a 1 year contract. Hopefully someone younger but he is three things we are crying out for: 1.Cheap 2.Reliable 3.Good quality key back

Another developing key back. Will Kelly fits the bill

And we need the same with a mature aged and developing quality running, breaking the lines backman. Quaynor fits for developing one. Not sure who to target that is more mature.

Someone in the media will come out in the next few days and declare he is going to Collingwood.
Bookmark it.
There is no way the media is going to allow everyone to accept that it is Richmond.
That wouldn't be good for clickbaits.
If there is interest then they won't allow the story to die.
God knows how many people tuned into FC awaiting what Caro was going to reveal.
In the next few days there will be a "Breaking news about Lynch" headline. "Tune in at blah blah blah o'clock to hear shock new developments'
And some half arsed reporter will tell us that he has "heard from a reliable source" that Tom is still considering Collingwood or some schitt like that.

He looked fantastic last week but I think the jury is still out. For me he is fringe. The club appear to think he is best 22 but he is behind Dunne, Shaz, Howe and a fit Moore. Fantastic one out but needs to improve decision making and execution under pressure.

They rushed him back into the team last year, that should tell you where he sits with the coaches, and the game or two he missed this year our defense look bog ordinary, not enough credit given to him

We have a history on this board of being financially irresponsible. We read rumoured figures from a media that we regularly ridicule for inaccuracy in all matters of trade and then we treat these rumoured figures as proven facts.

The amount of time the club has put into Langdon, it’s absurd to think the club will get rid of a key player like him. Played 41 of a possible 44 games in his first 2 seasons and only missing games since then through injury and he was smashing it in the vfl to get his recall to the seniors. He ain’t leaving.

But what if he's asking for 700k a year?

There's always a limit to a players worth, and list/cap management decisions need to be made.

I want to keep Langdon, but he's not a JDG-level irreplaceable player.

Where’d you hear 700k?

Anyway, probs should keep thread topic on Lynch.

Usually helps.
Crows had Walker, McGovern and Lynch in their forward line last year and were smashed.

Not to mention Jenkins. Their issue was they got smashed through the midfield. No forward line flourished with limited quantity or quality F50 entry.

If the scribes know where he's going (eg Tiges) then we're safe to assume his manager has let the two unsuccessful clubs know so that they can get on with their other trading (they might even want one of the managers "other" players), so......

If say The Pies and the Hawks know that Tom's Tiger bound....why aren't we seeing the "Pies out of race" headlines? Surely if we knew as a club (and the industry sources suggest that we would) then why aren't we seeing any of these headlines? Or simply Clarko or Bucks saying "We're moving onto Shiel now!!"

Makes me think....

Fair enough. I don't know what the coaches want from him in respect to structure and possitioning. But he is very iffy under pressure. As I said, was fantastic last week and if he can continue with that sort of form will be a real asset for us.

When the heat is really on, some players want to give a quick hand-off to anyone else, or the safe option.

Langdon on the other hand usually takes responsibility, takes possession, he takes the game on.
Whether flying for marks, or trying and burst out of the backline and clear the danger. Sometimes this results in turnovers, or being caught with the ball.

He's not perfect but he's brave.

Free agency was forced upon the AFL by the players union. (Note not “association” because it’s actually a union)
They threatened legal action based on restraint of trade, which they would have won easily.
The AFL doesn’t want free agency. It stuffs up their drafting plan, designed to rotate the clubs through a cycle of success and failure.
Everyone gets a ribbon.

The association didn’t do well for Its players then, since free agency means the richest players get richer but those at the bottom of the list become more disposable.

Perhaps he has to wait to the season has ended to make the call as to what club?
Also it keeps selling papers and media ratings which no doubt the heads at AFL like.
No doubt many know what will transpire alas us mortals will have to wait.
