I understand you were a great side in the 1900s, particularly the first half. But since the establishment of the AFL in 1990 you’ve made 2 grand finals. Missed the finals the year after the first one (that you lost). Lost is straight sets the year after the second one (that you won). All power to you, it’s a better record than the Dogs by achieving an additional finals game loss the year after your GF’s. In that same time you’ve ‘won’ 3 wooden spoons and finished 17th 3 times to comparatively the Dogs 1 wooden spoon.

Don’t get me wrong, I get no joy from you, or any team, losing any game. Schadenfreude is not my thing. But let’s not pretend that either of our teams have been superior to the other in the modern era.

This is a funny thread. And I don’t mean it in a nasty way at all, if it is at the level of good natured banter. Both our clubs have inferiority complexes. Which are probably easier to get out of than a superiority complex, that Essendon are mired in and Carlton have been digging themselves out of for a generation. We have both been kicked out of the finals from a winning position and that hurts like hell for a true fan. I hate the bloody cats and I was hoping you guys would knock them out next week. Both our clubs have brilliant but unstable head coaches, you guys have much more talented assistants and stronger admin keeping him in check, our guy just goes rouge and the club does nothing. Both clubs have the best collection of talent on our lists at the moment, than we have seen in 50+ years! See you in the GF next year??

I honestly don’t think it was ever meant as a shit troll. It’s origins were in the ‘freed from desire’ period, followed by Bevo doing that classic Tom Morris presser, which was objectively hilarious in every possible way - particularly with the way it panned out for Morris the next day.
