well an eventful day for the cats. Atleast they get some depth in defence. Will be handy at times in 2010 because Scarlett and Harley are not going to play every game and you don't want to have to rely on Mackie as a Full Back. Taylor is a great player but still don't want to have him the key to the defence.

Drum should go OK I reckon. Fair enough trade. Pick 47 doesn't have a lot of worth to Geelong anyway.

CATS LOSE ,pick 33{haw,ess port deal} pick 49 for marcus drum, and shane mumford CATS GAIN marcus drum ,picks 28 {for shane mumford} ,40 ,42,56 for 33 in haw ,ess ,port deal

It is a decent get, Drum still has a big upside.

Losing Mumford wasn't so great for them though.

Drum is a decent get. Provides some depth in key defence (the one area we need to rebuild given the age of Harley Scarlett and Milburn) for a very low wage, and we may not have used 49 anyway.

Mumford was a loss, and now we must keep West! and hope Blake and Ottens can play a full 2010. But given he was uncontracted we got as fair a return as we could've. I hope we can draft a good replacement with this pick.

don't think so buddy. that's in the past. we have now started excellent drafting in the past 2 years.

Drafting has not been our problem. It's been the trading of early picks which has done it.

Our picks in the 40-50 range (i.e. Medders and Mayne for two) and our rookie listed players (i.e. Sandi, Hayden and Broughton this year) have actually been very good.

Thought we could have got a bit more for Drum but you get that.

Wow..... Marcus Drum goes from a club who thinks silverware is something which comes from the utensil drawer to a club which, well...simply cant keep their hands off Silverware. Welcome to the cattery

Drafting hasn't been our problem? Rubbish. I would think Drum is perfect evidence of this. Regardless of trading, we have a huge hole in our list because we wasted top picks on Drum, Dunn, Murphy, Polak, Schammer and then Campbell, Collard etc if you look at second rounders. The last few years have been better as we've eased Smart out of the frame. Apart from that our drafting has been extremely ordinary.
