Do they really exist, or are we just making things up now? :p

Someone who's studied fashion and aesthetics is not exactly your man on the street.

A lot of this stuff may seem counter-intuitive on the face of it, but it's designed for a particular reason. High waisted stuff is great for for girls with shorter legs, or an imperfectly-flat stomach. Maxi dresses are great on statuesque women. High-neck-high-hem is great for girls who are lacking in the chest department.

By and large, girls are pretty good at knowing what flatters their bodies best. I guarantee that a lot of the girls wearing some of the stuff mentioned in this thread would not look anywhere near as good if they ditched it all for yoga pants and low-riders.

Close, except for the bolded.

It looks good on exactly nobody.

You say that because the idea of wearing your belt around your bellybutton is inherently silly to men. But you'd notice the difference if they didn't wear it. High waisted stuff is often the difference between a normal girl looking like she has nice legs, or stubby legs and a potbelly.

I have never seen a girl wearing jelly sandals. Maybe it's a hipster irony thing.
Sandals are for wearing on your feet. Jelly is for eating, or occasionally wrestling, in. Never should the two be seen together. Unless you're six years old, and then you can do and wear whatever the hell you want.

I can understand the thought behind it, but I am yet to see a person that it looks good on. Nothing to do with how I would wear my belt.

It makes every figure I have seen attempt to pull it off worse.

what kind of uniform was it? The scrub kind or the white tshirt and navy pant combo?

Genuinely curious, I wear scrubs and predominantly feel like i'm wearing pj's.

The scrub kind. Like the ambulance green colour.

White t-shirt, navy pant combo - huh?

I think you would notice if a long-waisted girl with big hips and shorter legs was wearing lower-rise stuff. It just doesn't look great. Everything spills out over the waistband and they look way too long in the body.

It kind of feels that everybody is judging fashion based on a specific female body type. Sure, lower rise stuff may be sexier if you can pull it off, but for a lot of girls high waisted stuff is the most flattering of the available alternatives. Even quite skinny girls can look like they have a muffin-top in low-risers if they have wide hips.

High waisted skirts/jeans etc just accentuates the hips, making them look much larger if anything. Guys dont like huge hips. Its in our DNA.

Heck no. Low rise stuff accentuates the size of a woman's hips much more than high waisted stuff, which draws the eyes up to the curves of her waist.

I respectfully disagree with this. High waisted stuff shows the obvious difference between waist and hip sizes.

A low waisted simple summer skirt hides the hips.

No it doesn't. A low waisted summer skirt on a girl with big hips = muffin top.

If you are talking about a skirt coupled with with a flared top that comes down past her hips, that's different. It doesn't really matter where the waist is in that case. But if the hips are going to be exposed, a higher waist is better.

So the leggings look - is it a goer or not?

I reckon you can wear them other than for exercise. A plain 3/4 black pair coupled with ballet flats and a nice top/tunic is a cute look. Not overly dressy, but smart enough to go out for a coffee, etc.
