Society & Culture Things in life you just don't understand - Part 5

I need to pick my social moments better.

Lately I've been adopting a forum approach in real life conversations (relax I don't automatically go into Bay 13 mode :p).

What I mean is that I'll end up talking in paragraphs when the actual conversation only warranted a short reply.

But I go against my gut instinct to respond with a yes/no (without a reason why) or a short phrase. And pile on and on and on.

In short I'm sure I've entered the grandpa Simpson phase of my life

:p
Ha
Sometimes I find myself thinking in BF mode
It’s weird

Woman does U turn after picking up kid. Runs over fence, kills a kid and severely injures 4 more.

**** me.
Not the old hit-the-accelerator-instead-of-the-brake trick, surely? Or put the car in reverse instead of drive? Horrible.

Politics has never been the same. Yeah I’ve been a strong campaigner this election

Campaigner is forever tainted because of BigFooty.

Kinda feel like it acquired its true meaning in a way.

The reporting for the first couple of hours was that the driver had a "medical episode."

Think about that for a minute. How bad do you have to **** up for people to assume that it must've been a medical episode?

People who do u-turns outside school pick up zones should have their licences revoked

It's a nightmare school at pick up too, with 2 schools over the road from each other. I don't know why you'd be attempting a u-turn there.

They said on the news that it was a tragic accident which it is but it also looks like a totally unnecessary and avoidable accident.

I don't know how drivers can do that sort of thing unless it is a medical episode or they are off their heads on booze and drugs.

Apparently she is a P plater but even a P plater shouldn't be driving that badly.

A 40 year old driving with green Ps on the car, read into that what you may.

Yeah that's a red flag, usually people that are good drivers aren't getting their P plates at that age.

Theyre still claiming medical episode arent they?

I dont wanna pass judgement without detail but "medical episode" following a car accident seems to be a bit of a go to defense these days.

Worked for the Daylesford bloke who ignore numerous warnings and 30 years of experience with diabetes so i guess i can see why they go that angle immediately.

The article I read on the Guardian said that police are investigating "if" she had a medical episode.

It also quotes a resident saying that people use the median strip or driveways to do u turns. Sounds like our school zone - people consistently do illegal u-turns because they can't be bothered driving the extra 100m to turn around at the roundabout. It's chaotic.

Knowing the area a bit (used to live not too far from it) i still cant even really understand how shes managed to do it TBH.

Its an absolute tragedy, people really should be far more aware of how dangerous a car is and how critical it is to minimize risk when driving.

My local primary school tried to fix the parking problem by arranging a drop off point in a car park about 1km from the school. The kids would walk/run/skateboard to and from school on a safe route with their friends and get some exercise.

The scheme was suspended because parents from the same school were using the drop-off car park as a rat run to avoid a 5 minute traffic jam.

I’m at school pickup (parked obvs) right now and people haven’t learnt a thing. Driving on the wrong side of the road to get past the cars waiting for pick up zone access, parked across driveways etc.
I can distinctly recall riding (cycle) home the day after a cyclist got killed (hit by a truck) on docklands highway, there were wreaths and memorials etc EVERYWHERE. There was a line of cyclists waiting at a red light only to watch one bloke absolutely fly through everyone and the red and miss a truck by inches.

People by and large are morons.

Going to the local primary school we used to walk or cycle there, as did almost all of my mates (in before 4 Yorkshiremen). Maybe they did and I didn't notice but I don't remember many parents gathering around gates or kids getting picked up.
