This for football every four years when the world cup is on.

Or once a year when the Superbowl is on. Funny how many new people are on the American Football board claiming to be lifelong fans of one of the teams then never heard from again after the Superbowl.

Facebook engagement announcements.

Just saw one complete with kneeling down opening the ring box photo, girl looking shocked and surprised photo and close up of the ring on the finger photo.

**** me.
My cousin posted one where his new fiancee was wearing the ring...only the ring didn't fit. It only came halfway down her finger...so awkward.

I am not understand any of it. What's wrong with just saying 'we got engaged'?
Because some people see it as a big moment in their lives not just another mundane everyday occurrence like getting some shoes on sale or being stuck in traffic. Fair enough if it makes you cringe. It makes me cringe too but you'd have to be pretty bloody dense to not 'understand' why some people do it.

I don't understand the validation seeking some people have. Big, important moments are there to be enjoyed IMO. So many people don't seem to be able to enjoy anything without live tweeting it. Can you not appreciate a marriage proposal without a live audience? If it was me getting down on bended knee and the girl's reaction was 'OMG yasss, now you stand here and I'll stand here so we get the best lighting, and "excuse me can you just take 17 photos for us?", and quick hurry gotta get back to the hotel Wifi...' I'd be reconsidering the offer.

I've seen it go the other way with marriage proposals, too. People get engaged, start to tell people in their own time and within 2 seconds there's a congratulatory facebook wall post from someone needing to get their name in lights and others find out before the engaged couple get a chance to tell them.

I 'announced' on Facebook a couple of days after we got engaged. No ragrets.
