Went to one in summer with kids. Was fun. Turned the back of the SUV into a bed and had a bunch of snacks. Was the new Minions movie followed by Twisters. Funnily enough, we barely got though the first scene of Twisters when a big windstorm swept through and knocked out the generator. They had to give everybody a refund.

I remember hearing a similar story from England in the late 1990s, where a family had just sat down to watch the movie Titanic on video, when all of a sudden their ceiling came crashing in, putting paid to movie night. The culprit? A large block of ice that had fallen from a passing plane and had crashed through their roof.

Lucky the weren’t watching Winnie The Pooh

Thanks Pistol Night, you do realize that I'll be intermittently laughing about this until about Thursday?

Talking about Winnie the Pooh, I was recently watching some Youtube videos about failed theme parks or rides and shows, entertainment centers, family friendly resorts and the like, and one was about a Disney kids' club at the Florida and California theme parks from the 1990s that failed to take off as Disney hoped and were discontinued in the 2000s.

This had attractions for older kids - tweens and teens - like discos and adventure courses and games for kids of all ages. There were attractions for younger children too - and in an example that leads you wondering just how multiple people at Disney failed to see the potential problem ahead of time - one of these was called 'The Pooh Corner'.

Of course, 'The Pooh Corner' was about Winnie the Pooh and his friends, but I think one person in the comments section summed it up best when they said 'The Pooh Corner sounds like a place I would never, ever want to visit, not in a million years.'

I've had a couple of cousins pass away recently from illnesses. One had cancer and actually did herself in, I guess because she didn't want to put her family through the whole process. Neither were particularly old but it makes me feel a bit vulnerable.

Tennis is like golf and sex, lot's of fun if you're involved but pretty tedious to watch other people do.
I had it on for a bit last night but the women screaming like they were having an orgasm quickly turned me off.

The last time that I went to the Australian Open was 25 years ago.

me and dad still talk about that Agassi-Sampras SF a lot, it’s a vivid memory for us (in the lounge room though). They had a couple great battles over the years but we tend to focus on that one.

that aside it wasn’t a memorable slam match-wise. Davenport consolidated her authority over Hingis. The 3 Moroccans had a good outing. We saw a fair bit of Magnus Norman then. Agassi winning that 4th set kind of saved it in hindsight.

17 years for me, the first Sat, was a bit wet outside for a day pass but on RLA there was the Federer-Tipsarevic (left during) and Hewitt-Baghdatis matches (had crashed by then). Same day saw No Country for Old Men (early bird sesh).

Kristen Bell's face in Nobody Wants This. Thinking back to The Good Place season 1 going "This is what 8 years will do to a person".

Still think the twist at the end of S1 is one of the greatest in a TV series I've ever seen.

My Godson will be 45 this year. I still have a pic of the two of us in our Footscray jumpers with 31 on the back when he was one - the first time I saw him.

My mum would have been 100 years old later this year. My dad would have been 101 in May.

I arrived in Australia 50 years ago this August 27th - a week before my 23rd birthday.

Best decision you ever made even if your choice of footy club when you got here was a bit iffy.

I didn't choose my footy club until Round 1, 1976. Went to the Western Oval with another American teacher at our school - Essendon vs Footscray. She lived in Moonee Ponds so "rooted" for Essendon. I lived in Maribyrnong and went for Footscray. The Bulldogs lost by a point. I had my team. The red, white and blue colours were a bonus.

I started school in Melbourne in the late 70s and when I came home one day and asked my folks who'd only been in the country a little longer than you at the time which team we followed they looked at my blankly not really knowing footy from Friday back then. Fortunately we took to the local team which was Hawthorn, my brother who decided to support Richmond because he liked tigers spent many years questioning the wisdom of this decision.

My first day of teaching I was asked by some students who I barracked for. I didn't know what the word barrack meant. I did meet a family at church who barracked for North and asked me if I'd be interested in going to a match. I declined. Now, THAT was a good decision( though they won their first premiership a few weeks later).
