Oh and if you want the definition of musical (guitar) w***ery this guy often gets cited. I do enjoy his stuff in small doses, ridiculously talented but not sure if there's a real song in there sometimes.

As others have said, it's never too late. It kind of annoys me when people say 'oh I wish I could play guitar'. The only thing stopping you is you.

I started at 24 I think, again I'm not much chop but play enough fun stuff to keep me interested.

I found it very mechanical. I could/did learn but it didn't come naturally, felt like I had to think about every note/chord/etc coming up. So yep definitely me stopping me there. I know people who can just pick up a new instrument almost immediately, but then can't do basic mental maths. Everyone is different.

If you are only ever gonna have the motivation or natural skill to bother to get to the very basic level (like all I've ever done since a kid) then the acoustic guitar is waaay better to have than the electric.
But having said that electrics are easier to play. Guitars are so cheap these days you can get a very acceptable one for next to nothing.

Electric is generally way easier to play as has been said. Plus as someone who likes metal it's way more fun to play with distortion of course.

Easier to 'play' sure, especially for a kid but for mine the acoustic is way easier to get to sound 'good' with limited skills.

Agree to disagree. If it's easier to play it's easier to make sound good. Same thing to me. Strings are harder to fret on an acoustic, especially for a beginner, and nothing sounds worse than buzzing strings that aren't fretted properly or muted when they shouldn't be etc but each to their own.

And **** me all the resources on you tube and the greater web today is mindblowing. You've got free access to some of the best teachers going around. Just keep looking around until you find someone you like there's so much choice. When I started learning guitar I had a chord book and a piece of shit nylon string. The end. It's never been easier to pick it up and go for it.

I wish I had have kept going with it when I was learning at school. I still pick it up every now and again but I can't really remember how to play much. I'll put in the time at some stage in the future to learn it properly.

Status Quo got away with using the same three chords for their entire career and they were inexplicably successful.

I never heard of them until the Coles ads and even that took months to realise they were a real band.

After a couple months being a normie, paid for a VPN subscription again. Eat shit Australian ads on the YouTube app.

Ive got 2 guitars somewhere in my house. Probably a combined total of 2 hours play time in the 12 years I have them.

Our youngest “desperately” wanted a guitar for her 13th - swore she was going to learn to play

The only time it came out of the cover was when she initially received it

Now sits at work for clients to use during group work

I got into the recruitment pool at work.

How does that work if you are already employed there

One of my daughters friends has had such a hard time getting work in a hospital after missing out on a graduate placement
