Not so much romantic life but in a few weeks I'll be reconnecting with a friend that I've not seen since 2022. Undecided if I'll unleash the dark mysterious Jerry Seinfeld or hilarious jokester George Costanza on the day.

Caught up with a girlfriend for a few drinks and bumped into my bestie completely by chance
Hate it when that happens. My crippling anxiety will always lead me to think "why didn't they invite me here today? And what do they think about me not inviting them?"
He was there on a date, there were no issues regarding missed invitations. He joined us after the date wrapped up.

Question for beach goers. If you’re alone and go for a swim wheee do you leave your keys and valuables

Im different- i dont take anything to the beach. No towel. No bag.
I am walking distance so no keys either as house has a keyless entry number pad.
When i used to drive and had keys, same deal but id leave my keys in a lockbox on my car.
I really only have my phone that I need to hide. I either pop it in my book and then my book goes under my towel or I have a waterproof cover for it and it comes with me into the water.

I'm now reflecting I do only tend to swim alone when it is walking distance (which has usually been the case). Like Billy I don't really bring anything, it is the activity, it might as well be your own backyard and you don't really hang about.
if driving down alone it tends to be for a long beach walk (or in my case you have your own pool and the area isn't very safe for swimming, see fnq with crocs, sharks, irukandji, etc.). I tend to plan ahead, bring the bare minimum, keep essentials/valuables in the car, carkey (and sunnies) on me at most, disposables like sandals hidden a tad in the scrub. Depends on the vibe of the area, time of day, the particular street entrance, if it is a regular routine activity, etc., you take a quick skim and sense whether it is worth the risk (and swimming nearby means you are still present, supervising, the property owner, a deterrent). If it is within the flags then the lifeguards and other beachgoers provide more deterrence. You could leave your towel in the car, use it after you've used the tap/shower to wash the sand off. Even when you do travel together with someone for a swim you'll often swim together for a bit.
I was a nipper/lifeguard growing up and could often leave my belongings somewhere in the surf club if need be. Nipper boards and surf boards (even surfwear) were often very identifiable, you can recognise who it belongs to. A busy crowded beach or popular spot might have one of them or similar facilities nearby that you could utilise or join.
Risk is very low, I've left items on the beach thousands of time and never been stolen from. Might be the beachy culture, a sacred pastime.

My wife has an ingenious solution. Don't know where it came from, think it was from a gift pack years ago.
It looks like a sunscreen bottle, but actually comes apart into two pieces. The top half still has sunscreen pump (refillable), but the bottom is a compartment to hold keys, sunglasses, phone, cards, etc.
It slides apart, fill the bottom with your valuables and put the top half back on. Unless it was in your hand, you wouldn't notice the seam, and it still works as a sunscreen dispenser to maintain the illusion.
