Just watched the last half of the AFLW match, Eagles v Pies. Positives; most girls rarely miskick the ball now or drop easy marks - that's it..!

In reference to the thread title - commentators and related media continuing to boldly promote this as an 'elite competition' full of 'superstars' - when in reality, while improvements are obvious which is great, we are still years away from the ALFW being entertaining...

The post above

Ha ha, so in your opinion the AFLW is an elite competition full of superstars - have you actually watched it..?

What if our media told us our winter Olympians are the best in the World and should easily win 50 gold medals! - is that something you'd also readily accept..?

Have heard that as Aussies we love the best of the best aker elite sport leagues. Ergo that’s why we love premier league, nba, and afl.

AFLW is extremely average (to be nice) as a spectacle and anyone saying different is being disingenuous. I say this as someone who tunes into nearly every Matildas game and a decent amount of Womens A League.

Soccer is years ahead in development so I see no reason why AFLW wont be comparable in another 5-10 years.

deanc and craigos you might very well think that, I couldn't possibly comment :D

Things that shit me: haemorrhoids. Pain in the arse. Have been completely fine for nearly 20 years and all of a sudden this is the best possible time for one to flare up.

Thank **** the local Chemist Warehouse is open 24 hours, was able to go down there before 7 this morning to make a donation to big pharma.

Agree, have also heard Aussie's don't like being deceived and treated like morons..!

Look, I support the concept and potential of the AFLW, just despise the way it's over hyped and promoted for a product that it's clearly not!

If the ALFW was even half the standard of entertainment the media promote it to be, then it should at least be able to pay the bills..?
Costing the AFL $1 Million/week, it must be one of the most expensive 'marketing exercises' for a sporting competition involving part-time athletes, anywhere in the World..?

i would probably suggest the posts are purely misogynistic hidden in a sly way
I, to a point, respectfully disagree.
To a point, the comments about AFLW may have some misogyny to them, but to be fair, they may not.
The actual VFA/VFL/AFL comp has had more than 130 years to get itself to the level it is at now. Early matches of Aussie Rules in the 1880's and 90's weren't probably much chop as a spectacle.
Spectators and viewers of the AFLW comp, including myself, are comparing a comp that's had 5 years of development to one that's had 130. Those of us who bemoan the quality of the AFLW aren't necessarily being misogynistic, but we are being unfair.
I find the AFLW games to be generally pretty scrappy, but the players have lots more skill than I ever did. Maybe there are men out there who can't handle that fact.
I do think that the AFL is rushing the comp to an 18 team event and that the talent pool will be pretty diluted, but given time, the quality will improve.
I don't think criticism is purely misogynistic, but there could be an element of it in the opinions of some people.
