Wouldn't say it shits me, but people announcing their gender pronouns on social media. Fair enough if you want to be called they/them or whatever I'm happy for them to announce it. People announcing she/her I don't get it. I've been told it's meant to be inclusive to show it's okay to show yourself, however I can't help thinking it's back patting.

I've seen some which have 'she/her/hers' or 'he/him/his'.

Staying away from the issue in general, surely the third one is completely unnecessary? It doesn't even have anything to do with the person themselves - it's a basic spelling and grammar issue, right?

Tempted to update mine to "his/he's - not the ****ing same thing".

Related and to summarise an article sent to me by friend recently who subscribes to the Futurist.

"Given the recent social ideology uprising of the progressive left party, legislation has been passed that in the 'best interests of all citizens' names will be abolished and replaced with numbers." it states.

"The 'SIP party' proudly announce this change will remove any traditional or modern pronouns (which have been confusing and often offensive) and also remove the decisive stigma that people have dealt with (which is also often offensive) as names can reveal citizens; gender/sex/other identity/nationality/ethnicity/race." it further states

The author then provides and example of a simple conversation at a family home in the future:
Hey 47626-874 (Mum), 27653-647 (brother) will not stop pulling my hair, 27685-655 (sister) complains! OK, 27653-647 just cut it out now!, or I'll get 46659-065 (father) to deal with you..!

Yeah that's pretty ridiculous but Elon Musk's is heading towards that track with his child's name X Æ A-12.

It’s popular on LinkedIn, and it’s all about patting their own back in my opinion as well

Shits me that Australia is, and has been, America's yapping poodle for some time.

I didn't realise for how long it had been, or how involved our Great Bloke PM Bob Hawke was.

I'm not sure I'd ever call Hawke a good bloke. He was charismatic and intelligent but also highly driven with a rat cunning and chalked up a pretty high body count of people who stood in the way of him and what he wanted, family included. Exceptional man definitely, not so sure about good bloke.

Moreover - with the recent 'inclusive' language programs now starting to appear in schools around the world which encourages students to avoid words like Mum and Dad (Primary Parent/s) and Ladies and Gentlemen (People) - 'numbers instead of names' is tragically the direction we are heading....

Quote from one particular school in NYC:
"This kind of inclusive language helps students with different family structures feel included, whether they have two moms, a single parent, or other primary caregivers," said Mary Emily O'Hara, the Rapid Response Manager at GLAAD, an LGBTQ advocacy group. "And saying 'people' instead of 'boys and girls' helps remove unnecessary gender-based divisions too."

I think saying “everyone” and “people” instead of ladies and gentlemen is fine, the rest is a bit overboard.

Never heard of the numbers thing, doubt theres much truth to it.

All this stuff is so far up its own arse now it's beyond a joke.

Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts:

the term ‘trigger warning’ should be dropped in favour of the term ‘content note.’ The University’s ‘Prevention, Advocacy & Resource Center’ argues that the “word ‘trigger’ has connections to guns for many people; we can give the same head’s up [sic] using language less connected to violence.”

Brandeis warns against using the word picnic because this word is “is often associated with lynchings of black people in the United States, during which white spectators were said to have watched while eating, referring to them as picnics or other terms involving racial slurs against black people.

The claim that the word picnic is “often associated with lynchings of black people” is ridiculous. 99.99% of people talking about going on a picnic have no idea that the term has even the slightest connection to lynchings. They are using this term in exactly the same sense that informed its original 18th century usage, which referred to the sharing of food outdoors.

we are also not allowed to use the phrase ‘rule of thumb’ - Brandeis has discovered that ‘rule of thumb’ conveys connotations of violence. Why? Because it claims that it “comes from an old British law allowing men to beat their wives with sticks no wider than their thumb”. It requires a formidable jump in imagination to associate ‘rule of thumb’ with wife beating.

words targeted by Brandeis includes terms such as ‘tribe,’ ‘mentally ill,’ ‘addict,’ ‘disabled person,’ ‘crazy,’ ‘wild’ and ‘insane.’ It is evident that the whole point of the exercise is to claim authority over what can and cannot be said.

In the UK, the LGBT campaign group Stonewall has recently advised teachers to stop using the words ‘girls’ and ‘boys.’ It claims that these words are too gendered, and wants teachers to refer to boys and girls as ‘learners’ in order to further its cause of gender neutrality.

I actually had to read the article to grab those quotes. The headline "By banning words like ‘picnic’ & ‘trigger warning’, language police are rewriting history to control the way people think" was enough for me to give it a "**** off" and keep scanning. Unfortunately that is an increasingly common reaction when I read news sites. I must say it saves time though.

My interpretation of ‘X is associated with Y’ is that when Y occurs, X often also occurs

so his statement reads fine to me if mentions of lynchings have a high correlation with mentions of picnics - the reverse would not have to be true

Not that I necessarily endorse his wider point

Yeah, nah, this looney lefty PC nonsense just to appease a tiny minority should be pushed back hard!

You can still respectfully refer to your Gay parents as Mum and Mum or Dad and Dad (as most kids do) but once you start accepting one or two of these new 'inclusive' references, without intention you're actually supporting ALL proposed related new language 'options', which, before you know it, will no longer be an option...

I recall when 'Partner' started to become popular and when receiving invitations to events for 'myself and partner', my usual response was; "Look forward to it, would it be OK if I bring my wife too?'....
One company secretary, obviously missed the sarcastic tone of my RSVP, and replied explaining that 'Partner' included spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend/significant other etc.
I couldn't help myself and quickly responded; "Appreciate the clarification, this is great, so I can bring my girlfriend as well?"....

So you can see how confusing some of this 'new inclusive language' can be, particularly for those of us that don't sport pink or purple hair and/or have neck tattoos and /or body piercings that most nomadic tribes outlawed years ago....
