Things that sh*t me the seventeenth

I've had a cortisone injection close to my groin today that's gone quite badly, I have a full on paralysis in my right leg. The doctor? "Oh, you took an uber here? Great, you'll be fine to go home, I was worried you might've driven!" :D

Co workers who tell me how many emails they have in their inbox after the holidays, I really don't give a shit

I used to leave an out of office that essentially said "i'm taking time off, I'm not checking emails, contact me upon my return on x Jan"... and then I'd delete anything that came in during the holiday period without reading it.

Worked great until I had a boss who received my out of office during that time and bleeeeew up! I won the argument about the merits of my thinking, but I didn't win the war... (Not that it mattered, I'd left that job before the next xmas anyway.)

I don't start back at work until Wednesday, but most people started back today.

I had to briefly jump into Outlook today to check a personal appointment I had put into my calendar before Christmas.

I told myself I wouldn't even glance at any emails because I knew I would immediately get irritated by something.

Accidentally glanced at the preview of the email at the top of my inbox and got so ****ing annoyed to see something along the lines of "This sounds like a problem, let's discuss ASAP with (me) when he's back on Wednesday".

Now I can't relax and won't be able to ease into my first day back.

I’m not back until after Australia Day, but occasionally glance at emails as there are some important emails about the weather conditions I’m interested in. We’ve also had people working through as no holidays for the office, it’s open all year round. Seen 2-3 though from people that I’m like, ugh, but I won’t respond and put them on the right track, let them learn for themselves. One was saying we’re out of some tape, but I’m 99% sure there’s a few rolls in the cabinet next to my desk where I moved all the stationery before I went away, seems they’ve forgotten!!!

You'll be on the mend so MP.
Not sure it will go away, it comes back due to the movements in my job. I have to stand and twist and after 15 years of doing it my back isn’t enjoying it.

Got a health and safety rep?

Part of a risk analysis of your job should be to eliminate the twisting motion or make it less of a repetitive strain.

I don’t think you could even do my job without the twisting motion. I think I need to look at some core exercises to strengthen my back /hips up. Trying to lose a bit of weight too.

I'm not sure where you're located, but one of my colleagues has had great results from doing the Get Back program: https://getback.com.au/
He's had a terrible back for as long as I've known him but he's feeling really good now

do you pivot your feet?
I don’t think I do, I was replicating to my wife what I think is the problem and I pick things up and sort of twist maybe only moving one foot and I think it’s this process that is hurting my back.

driving last night and noticed the car in front of me had keys hanging from the front door, eventually we got to the lights, and we tried to get him to wind down his windows, i read his lips, he told us to go forth and fornicate and flipped the bird and speed off, try to help someone out and thats what you get in return
