I've sent an email tonight trying to start the process to get out of my lease. It's not fun any more, it's just miserable.

To think I was considering buying a place in this very building 18 months ago, holy shit that would've been a disaster.

While there is a housing shortage, expect your property manager to take their time finding the “right tenant” - they will be picky, especially if you have been a good tenant

My son got a great job in Broome and it took them nearly three months to finalise his exit. Had to pay all the advertising expenses as well

If you don't mind me asking, what area of Melbourne are you currently in, and what sort of travel time are you looking to max out at?

Inner northern suburbs at the moment. I don't have to go to the city much, I don't have anything really tying me to this part of Melbourne...

I guess the biggest limitation is that I don't have a car, and having made the break from the money pit of vehicle ownership I don't have any real desire to buy another one. So I need to be central enough to have public transport and GoGet options.

Sounds like you'll need to stay somewhere with lots of PT available.

Just depends what your priorities are I suppose.

One option I have is to sign up to a 2.5% (of income) special Premium Payroll Solutions package that gives "priority servicing" for any Payroll issues

And here I was thinking this was standard

Good intro to the new employer lol.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like a) there will inevitably be significant issues with payroll activities (i.e. things that need urgent attention); and b) there will be so many open cases at a given time, that charging you for the equivalent of an express lane is considered a reasonably attractive feature.

Questions for me on this option is: what happens if every single person at the company signs up for priority servicing? And what happens to the poor buggers who refuse to pay approximately $1800-$4000 a year for their payroll team to do their job? How long until their issues are resolved?
