Rookies have no power. What about the rookies?
So that's where we've gone wrong TheInjuryFactory !agree KohPhi, I have always believed the more incompetent the Captain the better the clubs success chances, just look at the last few premiership captains if you need validity of that statement

#7 - Las Vegas Bears
Coming in at 7th in the Season 36 TiFmedia Power Rankings are the Las Vegas Bears, sliding two spots from their 5th placed ranking in S35 without doing a lot wrong. Not that the powerbrokers at Vegas would be overly concerned, as the club finds itself in arguably the best nick it's been in since as far back as the Spam Bears era, possibly even further back.
Their dip being partly due of course to a disappointing Season 35 on the park, as they failed to play finals after an ordinary back half of the season saw them miss the cut and slip out of contention late. In fact, for the second season running they would finish agonisingly short with back to back 9th placed finishes in Seasons 34 & 35. But when you couple that with the loss of a Hall of Fame Immortal who let's face it, is irreplaceable, any club would take a hit in the power stakes and that's exactly where the Bears find themselves to kick off Season 36.
But the signs are good for the Bears in Season 36. They still have a tonne of talent on their list despite their losses, and they've encouragingly managed to string a couple of crucial early wins together to give the Stadium In The Sky a renewed hope and something to cheer about.

to Dragons FFC
A big part of the confidence the algorithm suggests they'll take into Season 36 is the level of stability they've shown over the past few seasons, as skipper tony has quietly and earnestly established himself as a mature leader of the club while equally surrounding himself with sage advisors and a seasoned leadership group that provides them the ability to make sound list decisions and project themselves as some what of a destination club.
But back to the surprise retirement of Broken. After a top 10 finish in the beez Trophy I don't think even the keenest of observers would have seen this coming, and yet the immensely popular & extremely talented HOFer once again cruises off into the sunset possibly for the last time, but more likely just for a little time as the league awaits the prodigal return of the prodigious returner. But despite the loss, there's an embarrassment of riches at the Bears in their current guise, with fellow Immortal HOFer Dingster, two time beez Trophy winner JoshWoodenSpoon and another former skipper in MWPP offering plenty to keep skipper tony well armed with top tier talent heading into the season.
Where it not for his departure being peak, on brand Broken style outsiders would be right to ask questions. However it does not give off the appearance of a canary in the coal mine situation, but moreso of personal preference and to a man I expect those around the league wish him well. But of course it does leave a gaping chasm in the list that won't easily be filled, yet the return of guero and the long departed Tandy are welcomed and fortunate acquisitions as both have bobbed up at the opportune time to rejoin their former club and bolster the squad ahead of S36.
The loss of Supersuns barely registers given his level of engagement in previous seasons, and to be honest I think most would suggest he was a pretty odd fit for the current incarnation of Bears and already seems far more at home with his contemporaries at the Dragons.
As we touched on, a poor second half of Season 35 saw them lose 6 of their last 8 games and miss out on finals by just 4 premiership points, mirroring their Season 34 and rendering them spectators once again at the business end of the season. Their 7 win, 9 loss season started out promisingly, as they cruised to a 5-3 record as they handed the Demons a 49 point drubbing at the Stadium In The Sky. Despite their biggest win of the season coming in Rd 13 as they destroyed the Royals by 84 points at the Golden Throne it wasn't to be.
Individually, the Bears enjoyed three selections in the S35 All-SFA side, with the two old stagers Dingster & Broken both earning selection after superb seasons, joined by JoshWoodenSpoon who resumed his customary All-SFA Full Back position for the first time since S27. Electronic_Renaissance went agonisingly close to winning their first Mobbs Medal, finishing second and just a solitary vote short of joining omgfridge on the dais. In fact they would finish with two players in the top 10 in the league for the Mobbs, with leader Millky95 finishing in 10th overall. Outgoing spearhead Broken finished in a respectable 5th place with 59 majors for the season in a side bereft of wins, and they were well represented in the beez Trophy at seasons' end, with no less than 5 selections inside the top 40 a mark of the quality housed under the roof at the Stadium In The Sky.
After two seasons in the wilderness, the Bears will be desperate to turn their fortunes around and it's safe to say they're all in on Season 36 and will know that maximising the squad they have compiled, considering how long it has taken them to build it from the ground up, is of paramount importance to building a lasting legacy during the tony era.
Nice and early, and ready for a Bears S36 Grand Final cameoWe have already printed the tour programs for when Broken makes his return in Season 40.

Yep, it was all about you Gralin. Next thing you be telling me you like Jonathon Richman.
#6 - Gumbies FFC
Another club that's taken a slide in the rankings yet still find themselves nicely placed are the Gumbies, who drop 3 places back to 6th in the Season 36 TiFmedia Power Rankings.
The Claymation Nation have undergone a change of guard in recent seasons, with Barrybran fiinally succeeding on his second attempt to hand over the reigns to a successor with the smooth operator Falconista thankfully living up to the task after the first attempt failed miserably. With a season under his belt at the helm, Mr Falcon has emerged as one of the most promising leaders in the competition and has quickly established himself as a vital cog in the league's machinations in a brief period of time.
A middling Season 35 is partly to blame for their drop down the ranks after a stellar S34 campaign, but they look every chance to turn around their Qooty fortunes in S36 with a list that still sports one of the strongest core units in the competition.

Now while the Gumbies boast one of the most impressive core player groups in the league, with big names like beez, Barrybran, GWS Goose & Falconista all actively plying their trade at the House of Gumby.
It does fall away quite sharply from there it must be said, and they've lost a bit of depth and that next level of talent this season with the fleeting captain DenieD and veteran journeyman Rodney Dangerfield both seeking excellence elsewhere at the Wonders and Swamprats respectively. Add to that the surprise retirement of 51 gamer Supercheapgiants and the interesting move of the archetypal clubman Brick Loosener to the Furies for reasons unknown and we find a Gumbies club still battling to cement that second tier of talent to bolster that strong core of theirs.
Enter Chat Pile, who under many guises over the last 10 seasons has brought a spark to the competition at their best, and looks up and about enough early in S36 to give the Gumbies a much needed boost after their net loss in the recruitment stakes over the off season. Can CatToTheFuture take the next step this season? Will Mop re-establish themselves after dipping their toes back in after a 20 season sabbatical? Improvements from those already showing promise on their list will go a long way to consolidating this current squad as Falconista slowly makes it his own.
As we touched on upfront, the Gumbies managed a pretty uneventful Season 35 with Qooty in hand as they scrapped their way to an 8 win, 8 loss record over the home and away season. A run of 4 wins from 5 games mid season set up their assault on finals, but with just 1 win from their next 6 matches they limped to the finish line. They would just scrape in to the eight on percentage and a Phoenix point penalty in the end, and were quickly bundled out of contention in an Elimination Final against the Bombers in Week 1 of the finals.
Individually it was a bit of a mixe bag, with skipper Falconista their best performer in the Mobbs Medal with a staggering equal 17th placed finish to just scrape into the top 20. Elite wingman and HOFer beez secured his 7th All-SFA selection with a blazer for his outstanding season on the expanses of the House of Gumby, and although missing out Falconista was another in close consideration for a nod.
The individual highlight of the season however definitely goes to their much loved clubman Dory_77 who finished a very respectable 2nd in the Fred with a 63 goal haul from a 50% winning team, one of the great individual efforts for the season. While in the beez Trophy, the Gumbies managed two selections in the top 20 with the easily agitated GWS Goose and the up and coming Falconista both recognised for particularly strong seasons.
It's safe to assume that with the Gumbies retaining their much vaunted handful of club leaders they'll enjoy another strong outing in S36, but the improvement needs to come from within this season. As Barrybran enjoys his 150th match for the Gumbies and gains life membership honours in a particularly well deserved nod to his commitment to the cause, they will need to see that progression sooner rather than later, or else they will need to source some fresh clay elsewhere over the coming seasons to continue to build on the house that Baz built.
