We held our ground on going for the players we wanted, makes no sense to offload someone like Morton for next to nothing. Unless there is a plan to use this pick or an earlier one in another trade. Say, Macaffer...

Guys, get over it...
I agree with Peejay.
The club is looking to the next 3 years and are clearly freeing up room in the salary cap. The way I see it is, would you rather hang on to Morton for another year or two, or have the cash available to be able to keep our young talent at the club AS WELL AS being able to get active in Free Agency when it happens?
Not fussed by the pick (#79)... probably won't use it anyway, gotta look long term. Holding out for a better pick because we think he's worth more, or because he "might" become something we all hoped, is old Richmond type thinking... think back to the Frawley era when we fought to hang on to Daffy and Ben Holland when they wanted out. We ended up losing them anyway, and then in Daffy's case ended up paying for most of his contract whilst at the Swans.
Like it or not, footy's a ruthless game... and it's time for us to think that way again.
I for one like it
One list clogger down about 6 to go!Good luck at Sydney mate club but if he couldn't make it here I doubt you'll go far up there........
Think of the positives. James Hird was pick 79 from memory!
Combine Morton's skills with King's workrate and intensity, and you'd have one hell of a player. We trade Mitch, but re-sign Kingy????
Laughable!
I think we just need to take a breath. There is obviously a strategy behind it, and i suspect, behind the scenes there was a fair bit going on with Mitch. Not saying i'm a believer or that blind faith crap, but i just want to see what the club says in it's review of trade week.
You don't now that. We could have asked about him and told no deal. Especially considering he has named the Bombers as his preferred club.
Why does it say you're a Richmond supporter when obviously you work for the Gold Coast?
Thinking about it if we were going to delist Morton as rumoured then its probably better to trade him for a pick we could use to upgrade a rookie
No biggie.
Morton was out of contract and probably would have walked anyway and we did him a favour and sent him to where he thought his best opportunity was.
If he was in contract we may have been able to get something better but not when he's out of contract.
Who do we have to upgrade do you think RT? Contin is probably most likely but hasn't earned it. Hell, he was in and out of Coburg 1sts/2nds this year.Thinking about it if we were going to delist Morton as rumoured then its probably better to trade him for a pick we could use to upgrade a rookie
Yep. Really don't understand the carry on here. He obviously was going to be delisted or wanted to leave. Potential has got nothing to do with market value for a traded player.
Fair chance to be delisted too IMO. Can we keep him a 3rd year?Who do we have to upgrade do you think RT? Contin is probably most likely but hasn't earned it. Hell, he was in and out of Coburg 1sts/2nds this year.
There is still Miller as much as some would lose their shit who could be upgraded.Who do we have to upgrade do you think RT? Contin is probably most likely but hasn't earned it. Hell, he was in and out of Coburg 1sts/2nds this year.
Bang on.
We heard all week the interest in Morton and Connors has been bugger all and then people have a whinge when we get the best we can for the player because our own supporters overrate him.
He didnt fit in Hardwicks gameplan and we need to get over it and move on.
Well said. Why didn't we get a high pick for players we don't want and nobody else wants, why aren't we getting a big fish, sack the coach and the board, we are going nowhere blah blah blah
How I hate reading peoples idiotic views around trade time. Swear some people think trading players is similar to trading playing cards in the playground at lunchtime.
