Player Watch Tim Broomhead - (Delisted 2020)

Happy to see him in and out of the side for two more years. No real issue there, we aren't winning a flag in the next two anyway. The real press for a flag assault will come when he hits 25-26 in 3 years and we have a number of decent players in their prime.

Broomhead in and out of the side for the next 2 years would mean he never developed into a good player, a pretty poor result.

As a 4th year player in 2016 youth is no longer an excuse, he must cement himself in the best 22 and be a regular contributor.

I really think there is no reason he can't, if he has an injury free year. But that seems to be a big IF with Broomhead.

Didak took 6 years to be a star. We nearly traded him for Nick Stevens.

Which alternate path? The one where we recruit to win the flag in 2012-2014 while we had enough premiership players to base another flag around? That's as opposed to the staus quo which so many seem to think is the aternative or the start again which hasn't worked. We might win a flag in 3 years but it won't be due to decisions made in 2012 -2014. It will be due to decisions made since.
.
That would be the alternate path I am thinking of. 2012-14 were in hindsight not going to bring flags with the injury run and fall off in some of the flag players. I had similar concerns at the time but have let them go, it's pretty irrelevant now and we have positioned ourselves fairly well.

Seems churlish to believe decisions made in 2012-14 wouldnt have helped if we happened to snag a flag in 2018. If that were to occur I would expect significant contributions from the likes of Grundy, De Goey, Crisp, Adams, Greenwood and maybe Scharenberg and Broomhead. All these guys have arrived directly on the back of the decisions in 2012-14 to rebuild the list. You could also mount an argument that indirectly these decisions have i part led to the aquisition of Trelar and Aish.

If we snag a flag in the next 3 seasons Buckleys decision to rebuild the list will have had a big role. That wont even be up for debate

Didak was kicking 36 goals in a season as a 20 yo. He was a fixture in the team as a teen, had played in multiple finals wins and 2 GFs by 20yo.

I can't see this list winning a flag without significant new additions and the recruits of 2012 & 2013 will not have much impact apart from Grundy who we would have had anyway. WCE weren't going to take him. If you really want to look at cause and effect I'll stand by what I said and what I have said all along. We blew our chance and if we do win one from here, and it's always a huge if, it won't be due to that reload it will be due subsequent recruiting which we could have done regardless.

What's done is done and now we have to start with what we have now. That requires a lot top go right. T\the off season signings of Treloar and Aish with the prior recruitment of De Goey will be factors if we win a flag but the prior 2 years will be all but irrelevant save for what we would have anyway via the draft. Had 2012 & 13 gone to plan we'd be clear contenders now. It hasn't and we aren't.

By Broomy's age, Didak played in that semi final vs Brisbane and was a match winner. Because he played for Collingwood he was very much maligned, trolls like THATSGOLD who you are discussing the topic with a testament to this.

As for Broomhead, he was very disappointing last year. It's funny isn't it, at the end of 2014, rumors abounded that Fasolo was bullying Broomhead. Bullying should never be condoned, and of course perhaps rightfully some people wanted Fas traded. I also think though, 90 per cent of this was for the sake of Collingwood's interests. Broomhead was the up and comer, receiving plenty of interest from SA clubs, and had become a fan favorite. Right now, Fasolo is the better player of the two, and Broomhead's development has been disappointing.

Hopefully Broomhead develops this year. I think Collingwood could push for top four, and it'll be hard to break into the side this year.

I guarantee that the club see it differently! Broomhead won't be delisted, but whether or not he chooses to stay is a different matter.
Not sure how anyone can guarantee how the club will see Broomhead at the end of 2016 even the club itself

Without knowing contract status all of these players they would be under some pressure to perform in 2016 to retain their spot on the list

Sinclair
White
Ramsay
Caff
Toovs
Blair
Sack
Goodyear
White
Oxley
Gault
Broomhead

Of these 12 you reckon probably 6 will go at the end of the year. Some like White, Goodyear, Oxley, Sinclair are probably under greater pressure. You would think Broomy should survive the cut but if say he only plays 5-10 games and doesn't really stand out then the club could easily end up making a decision on him. Could end up being trade or delist. It's a brutal business and Broomy doesnt have enough credits in the bank to be able to have a bad season formwise and be immune from being moved on.

The only guarantee of Gone Critical's list is that White will be gone, most of others will probably stay on the list. Blair would be a favorite amongst the playing group so hard to see him leave as a FA.

Recruits from 2012-13 is different from decisions in 2012-14 which was your initial premise. De Goey, Adams, Crisp, Greenwood for a start are all at the club because of decisions made in 12-14.

My list is of players who have some pressure, differs player to player. If all the others stay where do we turn our list over? Some others need to go.

White has a season to secure his spot. NAB 1 wont determine it

Yep, definitely a headache or two. I think we might even let one or two walk as a FA, Toovey could walk to say, a club like Essendon or Carlton, perhaps Blair too, but as I said it would be unlikely.

Gone Critical the club are keen for him to remain beyond 2016 and they know where he'd sit. It's Broomhead's decision to make though!

I for one hope he sticks around because he could be anything, IMO, but we'll just have to see how it plays out.

Echoing the sentiments of most in here, comes in and out of game too frequently. Cant carry players who have no impact for extended periods.

Hopefully with an un-interrupted run at it though he can find some form and cement a spot.

I don't doubt we are keen on him to stay. Still the way 2016 plays out could see that change. As I said I don't believe he would be under great pressure but he still hasn't enough credits to be completely immune from the chop or trade .

How so? The decisions were to start a new premiership list build rather than load up and add to what we had and go for broke and then who to trade out, take as free agents and who to draft. Had we done that and played our hand we may or may not have won a flag and we may or may not have had to reload 2 or 3 years later. De Goey might be the only one on your list we may not have had but even that's speculative. We would obviously have recruited via the draft and I would hope we would have pursued a good player like Treloar last off season regardless of anything else. We wouldn't operate in a vacuum no matter what we did in 2012/3 and we'd presumably not throw the entirety of our shortish term future away even if we did push hard for a flag. Hawthorn did it and still have some good kids.
