The real story here is the second rounders Geelong missed out on; with their depth issues it would have been a win-win.

Carlton and GC holding onto known quantities like Gibbs and Ablett are one thing, but Cam McCarthy and Aish were valued as first rounders when they first looked to leave, yet plummeted to SFA a year later.
