Sent Muppett to the Bulldogs....

Seriously, Melbourne has a pretty good 'Lifestyle'.. (worlds most livable city?) .... Pick 5 and Howard and that would be fair IMO.
Could we do this if we can't agree to terms with Sydney? They'd be able to offer an enormous salary with Lake's $700k+ out of the cap. Tippett + 19 for 6 + Howard would do me.

The benchmark in all this is pick 8, as this is what we were offered last year.

Anything less is poor management of a player they must have known was high risk.

We all said it last year ... send gunston to the draft, make a statement. The worst of it is not the other clubs seeing us as soft, its the interstate players who have seen they can walk in walk out at will.

Probably the smartest comment of the day. Anything less is a failiure, anything more is a win

People seem to forget that although we didn't get what we thought we deserved In the straight out trade for gunston, the total sum of trading last year was very beneficial to the crows. I believe this is what will happen this year too. Patience is what is required.

Well I've sat here for the last few days reading all these comments and I know everyone is entitled to an opinion but think about what you are saying.

When KT announced he was going it was no surprise, I think we only signed him last contract by the barest of margins, I don't think he really wanted to be in Adelaide. So I'm not upset he's going just pissed off by the manner of his departure and him nominating Sydney who out of all clubs are probably the least able to get a decent trade done.

I'm also concerned after listening to 5AA that we may have some kind of obligation to trade him that dates back to his signing again in 2009.

But guys, you can't say good riddance to him, bag his on field performances, note his poor B&F finishes and say that he wasn't much of a player anyway then demand top price from the Swans for him. It is illogical. If he is a gun then it's top price, if he is way over rated then it's something less, and I fear much less.

We've had problems attracting top line players in the past and lost too many to the go home factor so it shouldn't surprise us if no quality Swans player wants to come here. Grundy was our only hope I feel and he has said a big no.

We are over a barrel because if we force KT into the PSD we get NOTHING despite the fact I'd like to do that to him. Other clubs won't be keen on him because of the huge $ and contract length he can demand under PSD rules and he would be more reluctant as a player if forced somewhere than he was for us.

Whilst it sticks in the throat, we may have to settle for Sydney's first pick. Doesn't seem much but far better than nothing. Don't blame the club and negotiators, it's KT that has stuck it to us.

Also, when did this sort of stuff no longer become Red Card worthy? I can't believe Adelaide fans are saying this sort of stuff now!

Hey guys. Has FAITH been by to deflect the meteor bearing down on west lakes yet?

Thommo, I agree mate but Pick 6 is a comp pick and cant be traded (to my understanding).

Pick 5 + Howard and we come away fairly compensated.

Anything else will be a full blown reaming.

Im real serious, lets deal with Doggies who are desperate for a key forward. Muppett fits their needs amazingly well AND they have bargaining chips.

GET IT DONE.

Is this why Melbourne had to trade pick 3 instead of pick 4 to secure the minidraft pick? lots of people bagging melbourne for this, but perhaps it was unable to be traded, as you suggest

That may well be the case.

I think the issue here is the public leadership of the club, or lack thereof. It's disappointing that the only person who seems to have been on the front foot in all of this is Paddy D. A 22 yo player.

I also think its very poor form for Triggy to be off around europe when the club is involved in such a volatile and high profile situation. We all need our holidays, but he is CEO of a multi million dollar, public operation. Lack of judgment being away through this.

Last years trading period is irrelevant. Gunston was a 2nd year player who'd had minimal games. Kurt Tippett is a 100+ game player, in a multi-position role which is currently one of the hottest commodities in the AFL, and apparently somebody who can command a salary of close to $1m a year, after being our highest paid player for the past 3 years of course. If we don't get a great deal for his departure, then we have categorically failed at the negotiation table, regardless of what else we manage to do during the trade period.

I will wait and see what happens before getting angry about it, but we need to do well out of this, and not just via wins from other trades.

THIS.

Where is the direction?

Noble/Harper are really just rank and file middle men.

Trigg should be calling the shots and have the nous to make some powerplays. Seriously, isnt that what a CEO does? make the big important decisions?

Paddy and Jenkins (young players) have set the standard and the new culture.

I know this is going to be a longwinded game of poker to see who bluffs/Cracks first etc, but this is where you ned to be firm and hold your ground right to the end even if it means walking away having lost your chips.

At least you had some balls.

So if Kurt happened to go to the preseason draft does he have to agree to go to the club that picks him up or does the club only have to pay his price and he has to accept?

If a team selects him and matches his terms, he has to play for them, or not play at all.

I know this trip was planned twelve months ago. Twelve months ago we finished 14th. besides which the CEO doesn't make the bloody deals. That's what they pay noble and ogylvy for. He is only a phone call away, it's not like he's on another planet FFS!

This is the best post I've read on this issue. Until a deal is done & we can judge that, all we can judge so far is the club's response to Sydney's chest beating.

Exactly right. We managed to net Jenkins and Lynch I think with two of the picks from the Gunston trade, which is how the club reasoned why we wanted the Gunston deal done so quick. If there was 3 weeks last year, I have no doubt the club would have pressed for me, but obviously they wanted to get other trades done.

We traded Gunston and pick 74 for picks 24, 46 and 64. Pick 24 was then traded to GC for picks 27, 31 and 68. Pick 31 is then used to trade for Jenkins and pick 41. Pick 68 is then used along with our own pick 35, along with Armstrong, to get a contracted LJ back to Adelaide. Also gained Lynch, Brown and Crouch in other deals. I thought this was covered last year though when everyone finally got a grip over the Gunston trade and realised why the club acted so swiftly, but obviously not...

It also shows how far pick 22 is off the mark when we managed to get pick 24 in the Gunston trade. Gunston is a far inferior player to Tippett at this stage of their careers, and I believe we did extremely well that trade period.

Weren't we regarded as one of the better teams over the trade period last year, when people realised the net return from the players that were lost?

But hey, enjoy rants over media speculation about hypothetical trades because you want a decision right now, you'll just look extremely childish when this is all over.

It really sucks for you guys sounds like Sydney are being real pricks right now, but I reckon they'll come round they clearly want him. I can see someone like a Rohan or Parker let go, perhaps not necessarily to you guys but perhaps for a better pick than their 22.

If it was to get to the end of next week and no ground had been made and it didn't look like it would, the only way I could see you guys getting either us or GC involved is whether the AFC would be willing to pay some of his salary. We have started to move on with the Moloney deal and Kerr said there were more to come, as well as GC have been linked to a few guys.

Guess what I'm trying to say is your recruitment guys may have to weigh up is a package of say a pick 8 or a Gorringe & something, but having to pay some of Kurt's salary better than say a pick 22 and a fringe player.

P.S I have no idea of what Adelaide's salary cap is like at the moment so guess that would obviously be a consideration as well.

Sorry to intrude. Carry on guys and good luck!
At last a commonsense idea

Don't threaten PSD ....just do a deal with a Brisbane/GC and tell Kurt this is the deal we have mutually agreed to ....put the pressure back on Sydney without the threats

Everyone agrees that we need to do well out of this, but there is nothing to suggest so far that we won't. The club has said all the right things so far, and so have Sydney, but chest beating means nothing once behind closed doors and negotiating time starts.

I hate waiting, but this isn't any clubs fault, it is the stupid AFL and their stupid stuff up with FA. The AFL are who we should be ranting at right now.

Jenny, with respect, you are not objective on any trigg issue.

We have faith posting that Ireland is cleaŕly very involved in over ruling trade options. Its perception and right now Ireland is being perceived as our lord and master. We have no equivalent person working thr media to create pressure.

Sorry but its very poor.

Excellent point ....pick 8 is the benchmark

Anything greater is a failure ........Is it me or does Harper come across as less than Dynamic, anyone know much about him?
