Have just been on the Lions website....it says do we want a new design yes/no

That is NOT do we want the fitzroy lion back yes/no

First question they need to find out is whether people want it changed.

If yes, they will proceed to another round of consultation.

Correct. It would be somewhat hypocritical to criticise the club for not consulting sufficiently with members about the original change, and then demand them change back to the previous design without proper consultation. My understanding is this is just step one, and if sufficient numbers of members want a change then the club has committed to consulting with them openly about defining what change is made.

I hate protocol!....just get to the nitty gritty.

Do we want to change back or do we not....bottom line.....yes or no.

Easy. Done.

Wasn't done at all back then.....my above opinion is a huge improvement!;)

Ah yes, the famous focus groups then come in to come up with a new design...

I am surprised the board has got off their backside to act on the so called "12 emails".

each vote counts i guess.

I think you've overlooked the divisive nature of the issue. After all, wasn't it 12 emails, half of which were in support of the current gurnsey? Hrmmmmm?

They have kept this questionnaire brief for 2 reasons:

1: They needed to show the process has started with an election coming up.
2: If they asked about the Fitzroy jumper being returned there may be pressure to return it now, it is now too late to do that, so if they had 90% in favor of it and they said wait 12 months, the election would be over before it begun.

Long short they are doing it slow to help get votes in December, but at the same time give Paddle pop 1 more year.

Exactly.
I have no problem with the way the question will be posed.
All the evidence they have at this point is a thousand odd letters from some angry people, most whom want the original jumper, but not all. (Not all were angry letters either but were probably read that way given the swell on which they arrived).
Consultation and choices will have to be offered going forward which includes complete new designs. This was the problem with the original decision to change.
It must be established first if change is really wanted by sufficient numbers (Yes/No).

Reverting to our original jumper will be one option, but to be fair to all, the choice must be offered of a new design as well. That is why this initial survey is so basic. To ask if we want the old jumper would be unfair and would also come across as some sort of promise. Just because they ask, doesn't mean they can or will deliver.
One step at a time.;)

Hi guys.

Just to clarify on behalf of the Club, the initial survey is designed to simply determine whether members want to change our existing guernsey.

If the overwhelming response is 'YES', then members will be consulted further on what type of change they would like to occur - whether it be reverting back to the old design or perhaps something new altogether.

Hi L_I

While I am very happy that us members are finally getting a say on the jumper, I would just like to know, how many % would need to respond with "YES" to be considered an overwhelming majority?

It would be a shame if the jumper doesn't get changed even if say ~55% says "YES" and therefore the majority that wants the current jumper changed.

Thank you for the clarification on that LI, gives a better picture for us on the intent of the question and what the next step is.

I'm hoping the club asks the membership base for any design or new jumper ideas if that option is explored. Some members are very good with design, and if the club and membership base was to select a new design, I think it would be really great PR if that design came from a member.

To add to this L.I., will the result be considered on the basis on the number of members who've completed the survey only? In other words what will be made of members who've not completed the survey?

I expect that majority will rule - much like any other vote.

The Club has also purposely contained the survey to members only, so that each vote can be validated with a Lions membership number. If the survey was to go public, and thus be available to Lions non-members as well, unfortunately there would be no way of stopping rival opposition supporters from having their say - which is obviously not what we want.

Very important question.....

Will those who don't vote not be counted in the %'s, or will they be an assumed "No" or "Yes"?

Appreciate the visit from L.I.

That's hard to say. Obviously only those members who take the time to complete the survey will be counted, while those who don't will probably be considered 'indifferent'.

But hypothetically, let's say only 10 members fill out the survey and six of those members request a change to the guernsey. In that case, it might be hard to justify that the majority of members want change. This is an extreme example, but you get my drift.

That's why we're encouraging ALL members to participate in the survey, because we want as many members as possible to have their say so that the Club can get a more accurate representation.

That said, we're certainly not expecting to receive a completed survey from every member, but we're hoping to at least get a decent sized sample.

The next question then is "Are all members (or a decent size) on email?" or is there another way for "non-e-mail" members to participate? That's just rhetorical btw, just a potential hole when considering the data.

Genuine thanks for the opportunity though - the club should be commended for this. :thumbsu:
