He averaged 10 touches, 2 tackles and about a goal a game at Hawthorn.

Obviously hope im wrong, but maybe that's just him?
He came strongly on the scene in his debut season, then got injured which wrote off his second season. His third season in 2023, he played very well as a small forward being opportunistic in front of goal and showing a heap of x-factor. Hawks didn't want to let him go and he was very close with Sam Mitchell but did so for his young family's wellbeing. He would be flourishing right now in our forward line set up alongside Wizard and Ginnivan and his skillset/creativity would perfectly compliment theirs.

For some reason the Eagles seem to play him more up the field as a high half forward, this is not his go. Stick him in a pocket and see him get creative and produce a goal a game, hopefully McQualter does this.

Anyway, you recruited him based on his potential output which has been clear to see by all when he is played in his preferred position.

10 disposals from a quality ball user in the forward half and 23 goals a season would be welcomed by every club in the AFL.

Hope he fulfils his potential, because he's capable.

If the Barrass deal falls over, I wonder if Hawks would offer one of below for smith instead given the low balling of just pick 17 from Cats

1. F1 + F2 ( Hawks or Blues, Dog's choice)
2. F1+ 2 F2's with Dogs F3 back

and variations and unlikely offer of 2 F1's

n. 2 F1's for a F2 and Dogs highest 2nd round pick now coming back

Why not get both?

Offer F1 + F2 for both Barrass and Smith.

Blindside the Cats and hope that the eagles come to the party and release Barrass to us.

Only downside is that we basically trade out of this years and next years drafts but bank on Smith and Barrass to be best 22 for us. Smith is still very young, so there is some merit

Lol, Brockman was let go because of 'good will'.

More like Hawthorn fleeced us for an extra late pick.

Only thing he's shown in his entire career was a good second half in a WAFL game against East Perth.
We didn't use the pick 63 we got from you, neither would you have. We passed.

We gave pick 62 to Essendon in D'Ambrossio goodwill trade who also passed.

Can't trade both F1's and F2. Need to hold one F2 atleast.

If we had Eagles F3, then we could request AFL for special permission and make an argument their F3 is almost a F2.

Must be the reason why we are insisting on getting a F3 back so we can make a sneak attack on Smith trade.

If not we need to swap F2's with Dogs and give them our F4 and hope they accept that over the laughable deal put by cats.

Come on dude, surely you have to agree this has been the most boring two weeks ever for trade week. Seriously need to be reduced to 5-7 days.

Not sure what that's got to do with what I said

Of course it should be shorter.

There will always be deals that go to the last minute though. The way this one's played out it's hardly a surprise

Sorry but who showed who good will last year?

Fairly certain we gifted you Brockman without so much putting up a fuss because we had the player’s welfare in mind.

Clearly this isn’t the case with how your club views it’s connection to Barrass.
Holding a trade up for a pick in the 40's over a pick in the 60's is gifting?

There's some crazy takes in this thread, but claiming 44 and 63 was "unders" for a guy who played 10 games, spent time in the WAFL, kicked 1 goal for us, averaged 8 touches a game, and was charged by the cops for bailing on his car after an accident is right up there

He was pretty good when he was with us. Very up and down but that often happens with raw, younger players.

…in the reserves.
He showed a bit in his first couple of games. That was exciting. He didn’t show a lot else in terms of actual performance. Teased with the odd highlight.
Let’s not pretend he was Eddie Betts. Or ever likely to be.
A nice, speculative, value pick-up by west coast. Hope he makes it. Highlight reel is pretty good

He was a pick 46, played 26 games in 3 years and averaged 10 touches for you guys. He may have been "good" but you cannot possibly claim 44 and 63 for him was unders
You didn't split a top 3 pick for him so I'm saying unders
