Now that we know slightly more, you'd say Boyd is a little Hawkins-like and Hogan is a little Reiwoldt-like (with a bit more bash and crash).

Just in playing style - not ability.

I'm happy with Hogan, but we'll need another forward who will spend more time closer to goals.

Bulldogs probably still need a hard running CHF to get to the wings.

Crameri is that hard-running leadup type (finished up with fitness freak Matthew Boyd and other midfielders in our endurance running testing).

Yeh we have Dawes - but I meant someone better.

Underrating Crameri. Three time leading goalkicker at Essendon, plus lead our goalkicking this year (would have still led his old team's goalkicking too). He's not a superstar but a valuable roleplayer and not at all comparable to Dawes.

Fair to say that Hogan was far more dominant in the much stronger VFL competition in 2013 than Boyd was this year in the much weaker NEAFL, despite Tom being that year older, which was interesting and quite unexpected, as far as I was concerned. Given how dominant Hogan was in the VFL seniors last year, despite still being at school, imagine what he would have done at NEAFL level this year if he was fully fit and that year older! ALready having that big tank would have helped considerably though I imagine.

Hogan will be a gun his more like Oxe than Riewault but Boyds upside is of the charts 201 cm is big and kicks it 60

Would love to have them both. They would compliment each other very well IMHO.

Pretty much and I'm looking forward to Hogan next year.

Saw this kid as a 17y.o. and he looked the absolute nuts then. No reason that should change.

Boyd is a different type but he'll get you what you want............Goals and presence. Toss a coin who may end up better.

Anyway, I would probably take Hogan. As said earlier, he performed very well in the VFL compared to Boyd playing in the NEAFL. All I'm going off. They both will be stars just think Hogan may be a bit better

Agree I just don't want the one I'd like both.

Boyd will probably kick more goals as he will be that stay at home forward and a better contested mark, but Hogan is more versatile and probably more aggressive.

Toss of the coin really.

A Boyd and Stringer forward line vs a Hogan and McCartin forward line would be epic.

I wonder how Boyd will go this year?

Do Doggies fans think he'll play all games - or will he be eased in as a second year player, with say 10-15 games?

I think Hogan will play 15+ but that's partly to do with his running game, and also that he's been at Melbourne 2 years now (first year playing VFL as a 17 year old, second year resting his back).

Wouldn't be a surprise to see him play some vfl at different stages IMO. Wait for the howls of "I told you so!" from the media if/when it happens. I actually think doggies fans have more realistic expectations for the guy than the media do.

That's pretty much what I was thinking.

I really hope he's not pushed into the deep end and is allowed to develop in good time.

Realistically you don't expect power forwards to cement a senior spot until 20-21, and that's if they're very good.

Particularly given he'll most likely get average supply from our mids. And he'll get the number 1 defender. Will be some rough patches for him for sure
