Mackie just tweeted -

@AndrewMackie_4: Amazing show of loyalty to this great club by a great man! @tomlonergan13

Love this!
Reading between the lines he is saying "as opposed to someone else I know!"

I thought the same thing. I would love to know what some of the players think of Bundy's decision.

Anyway happy for Lonergan to stay.

And you may be reading too much into that.
He may very well have no one else in mind but the bloke with one kidney and a huge heart.

DAMMIT.
A chance to get rid of one of a number of old defenders and he bloody stays. This is BS.

Bundy gone for a bag of peanuts. Grandad stats in the house until he dies.

I get what you are saying, but that's a pathetic way to say it. Lonergan had another great year this year, has been a solid rock in defence for years, and you are annoyed he decided to stay loyal? Pfft.

Great news story. Made all the better because it looks like we didn't unnecessarily go down the path of extending his contract beyond next year. Onya Doms.

Do not believe.

Amazed at some responses to this.

Do some posters understand he has just given up a truck load of cash and at least one (maybe two) seasons of guaranteed AFL football to stay at the club? It's an incredible show of loyalty. No one would have begrudged him going. Few would have turned the offer down.

Oh yeah, and he was an AA defender THIS ****ING YEAR, so what a list clogger for our youth he is. And we didn't get Frawley, so had he gone we would have had one less KPD of his size. **** me!

Luckily the players and club know his worth. Cheers to Lonergan for this great gesture to GFC!

Interesting reading regarding Wells' 'picks under #25' strike rate Bobby_

my take on your take ..

2001 - We took Charlie Gardiner. He wasn't the worst player, but he was a battler. Leave him alone, his mum died when he was a kid.
Sam Mitchell was still available. Try not to think about that too much.
%75 hardly seems fair though when Wells managed to jag some of the club's all-time champions while other clubs opted for the likes of Luke Molan, Barry Brooks and Richard Cole with their early picks. Did really well.

2002 - Mackie, Lonergan - again, we did well, ultimately.
Lonergan was touch and go both list-wise and life-wise at various stages.
Mackie was the celebrated 'smokey' at the time, and to be fair he's played more games than every single player drafted subsequent to him that year apart from Kade Simpson, and even then the tallies are very close. Jared Rivers was taken three picks after Lonergan .. looked like a draft that was light-on for big men; Rivers and Daniel Merrett being two that have played more footy than Lonergan, but then again how many kidneys do they have?

2003 - Wells' Lost Weekend ... missed a lot of decent players, and the Thurley pick was a shocker, but it was a pretty weak draft. Tenace is a funny one, I agree with Partridge - he had a solid rep leading into the draft, seemed a surefire thing. He came in and pretty much impressed from his first game, from my shabby memory. He was quick and he dobbed a goal from like, 55m.
Then he just faded away. His kicking action and subsequent results were both haphazard, but David Clarke jr. eked out more games than Tenace, and his kicking was just as shoddy. He did play in that celebrated 1-point comeback win against Hawthorn in 2009, and then that was about it for Kane.

2005 - Varcoe has arguably had a better career than every player drafted below him that year, apart from Matthew Stokes :D

2006 - Selwood, Djerrkura - to be fair Djerrkura struggled for opportunities at a time when we were very strong. Lots of very very good players taken after him though. Selwood goes ok. Fell into our laps, Boak went early and others were keen on talls.

2007 - Taylor - one of Wells' very best efforts I reckon.:thumbsu:

2008 - I'll wait until the final delistings/trade period is over before making a call here; if Brown sticks around he has every chance of breaking into the team on a more regular basis next year. Saying that, there are some stars that were taken by opposition recruiters after Geelong called Brown's name. On that basis he has a lot of ground to make up.

2009 - Menzel -

2010 - Guthrie's tracking very nicely. Smedts is every chance of becoming Steve Johnson's replacement in being the player that most frustrates and confuses me.

2012 - I recko Thurlow will be a handy player, just needs to harden up a bit, but he covers the ground like a modern footballer and his overhead skills are solid.

2013 - Lang looks promising.

2014 - ? ? - best available ;)

Wells' reputation is well deserved imo; he's done a really solid job.

A full comparison against the performance of other club's recruiting strike rates would give a better overview of how just how well Wells/Geelong have drafted.

Lock this sucker up and let the complaining move to another thread.

Happy he is gonna see out his deal with us.

And yes, im sure the offer was enticing the recent events a the kennel may have swayed his opinions.

After the last few days, a little normalcy here aint so bad.

I won't be 100% either until it's confirmed but...

“We are very happy Tom will see out his contract with the club,” Balme said.

While that doesn't preclude the possibility his contract was extended, it doesn't sound like it.

No they won't. To self absorbed to understand or care. Rules only apply to others not them and its easy to just judge than actually do it.

but they'll rattle on complaining anyway. Sooks.

Yeah ok. You'd think that IF we actually offered 2016 that he would have got it.
