Exactly , I really don’t get that line of thinking to be honest . So his thinking is oh Richmond are going to win another flag this year so and already won one so they’ve peaked and won’t win another for some time . Lol fmd
Ive thought that would have been the one card Collingwood could play given it's been reported that success rather than money has been an overriding factor.

My other thought has been about who's in the better position to get the deal done if Suns match. If it's Collingwood then it would be negligent of Lynch to not look at them again.

There's a lot to like about coming to play for us that is honest and proven but it's silly to think someone can't be persuaded otherwise.

...and around we go again.

Happy 8,000 posts lmao :birthdaycake:
We’re bored.

It’s hard being on top of the ladder and the best club in the competition, got nothing to bitch about so we talk about players that may or may not come to Richmond.

Kind of reminds me of the Jerry Maguire scene when he's the agent for the NFL number 1 draft pick, except it's Eddie not Jerry.

I think with the re signing of players recently doesn't necessarily mean we have got a verbal ok from Lynch, it might be that we have got all the players we want to sign happy & at the same time the 800k or whatever it is we are willing to offer Lynch or plan b in the bank , if that's not enough so be it be they won't be willing to go any higher

If Lynch decides to come to us, the next step will be negotiating a workable (to both Clubs) arrangement with GCS. We would clearly offer our first draft pick and whatever players surplus to our requirements that would be acceptable to GCS. Collingwood, should there be truth in the rumours of Moore going to the Swans, could possibly be in a position to offer the Suns their first round pick plus the Swans' first round pick, should that be part of their transfer deal. That could influence the Suns to put pressure on Lynch to accept the Pies' offer to smooth the release for him. Just speculating as we all are.

Come on. He’s a RFA. GC will do way better accepting compensation than taking pick 17 or 18 from us.

Good point, although I think we still have good relations with them and money in the bank for the Prestia trade, in hindsight definitely worked in our favour but at the time seemed very generous.

Lots of questions with this one.

Are we going to enter into trading for Lynch if GCS match the offer?
Given the $$ we would have to pay Lynch it would certainly take some shine off recruiting him if we needed to send a high pick GCS's way.

Thinking creatively, I think there is a way to see CGS finish with 2 first rounders and us losing only one if we went down that path.

I have my doubts as to whether even the Pies would offer CGS 2 first rounders though.

That is if the Suns decide to match the offer otherwise they will get something like pick 3 as compo

But we strategically overpayed to get Prestia...:p

King on 360 had this out with Slobbo.

S: Suns should demand 2 1st rounders. Say we are matching.

K: So his potential go to clubs all say no, cant do it. No way Tom is staying. So he goes to Carlton in the draft. Suns get nothing.

S: Mate, they have to be strong.

K: OK. You're the boss at the Suns. Thats your decision. You would prefer to get nothing than pick 3.

S: I would discuss it with the board.

K: No its your decision. Pick 3 or nothing.

S: I would discuss with the other decision makers. (ie I have no way to argue this and come across as being logical)

In other words he was put back in his box. Thats why clubs fold on matching. Matching is not viable. There is no way in hell Lynch will stay on a forced match from the Suns. So the 'threat' is not really there.

Maybe we did.

Problem is that it was over 12 months ago since we did the Prestia deal with them and the landscape for them has changed dramatically. They are now resigned to losing their best 2 players and who knows who else and they will have to start all over again. The temptation for them is to forget about what has happened in the past and get the best possible outcome for themselves. If it was our club I know what most of us would be saying.
