Recommitted Tom Mitchell [contracted and staying at Hawthorn]

If he were to be traded, what would Hawthorn get in return?

  • Two good 1st round picks

  • Top 10 pick and change

  • A 1st & a 2nd

  • Later 1st round pick

  • Two 2nd rounders

  • Early 2nd rounder

  • Other 2nd round pick

  • Less than a 2nd rounder

*sigh*

I know it's hard to stay on topic at times, but when we get to flinging shit at young Richmond players and commenting on their VFL form, we've probably strayed a little bit too far away from Tom Mitchell discussion, please stay somewhat on topic

Tigers cap might need some massaging, so Hawks pay some salary and demand Picks 9 and 17 in return.

Remains to be seen if Sam would do that, or if he's happy enough to take the 3 picks inside 25.

He's contracted, so this was the supposed "god father" deal Richmond would need to offer to get Hawthorn to release him.

More than happy to keep him.

more than happy you keep him
dont want him
thats the worst supposed offer ever

Tom Mitchell for pick 9 and 17? Even with Hawks paying all of his salary this is laughable

Pick 15 at best and you pay 30%
You’re having a laugh.

6 weeks ago i would probably agree. Not anymore, for the first time since 2018 is starting to be really damaging. Would be wanting the equivalent of inside 10 considering a traded pick will be 2 further out.
Prefer to keep him

Look I don't watch the Hawks every week, but I don't think Titch has hurt factor. Is one injury away from the best of his career being gone. Didn't he miss a whole year a few years ago? Sorry but you don't pay more than pick 15-20 for that. Not in the era of free agency

Pick 15 could get you a Will Day.

I feel like people who say this

'but I don't think Titch has hurt factor.'

Often are people who also say this

'Look I don't watch the Hawks every week'

Funny what a media narrative can do

So Charlie Curnow is worth a pick in the low 40s ?

Is that how this works ?

Which free agents are available for similar or less money than Mitchell ?

That much is evident if you don't think Titch has hurt factor.

"He's not damaging" is such a throwaway line - what does it even mean in practice re Tom? He does everything you want from a ball winning inside mid i.e. gets the footy for his team, gets involved in link up play and shifts it to the outside. Watch the Hawks play and you'll see most good things run through him because he works super hard around the ground, is always an option for team mates under pressure and cleans up any dodgey handballs.

Top 10 pick and a bit more value via a pick swap is about the ballpark now IMO. That isn't unreasonable in the FA era, look at what the Blues gave up for Saad, trades still happen regardless of FA. If a team thinks they are in the window for a flag, there's no point drafting another 18 year old when you can get a bona fide gun mid.

Tom Mitchell isn’t worth a top ten pick & Saad the overrated journeyman isn’t worth anymore than a 3rd rounder. If Carlton has paid more than that then there’s no surprise why they are where they are.

The only way I see Tom leaving is if the club are prepared to take unders in a trade or he really forces our hand.
Obviously there is a lot of conjecture about his worth.
The clubs who hold picks that Hawthorn would accept (imo) aren’t in a position to be giving those up for a like player like Tom considering his age.
I think it would need to be a club confident of contending in the next few years and who see him as a missing piece.
I know it would be a very Carlton thing to do, but surly they can’t even entertain it in their current position.
Richmond I see as a possibility and have picks in the right range, however I think they’re more likely to keep bringing in kids through the draft.

“Look I don’t watch the Hawks every week”.
Color me shocked.

Also, every player is one injury away from their career being over.

The lengths people go to play down a guy. Sheesh.

How would Tom force our hand? He's contracted and happy at the club.

Or it could get you a lochie o'brien

Charlie Curnow is significantly younger and a KPP. He is also not up for trade.

His value to the club far outweighs what someone should sensible pay on the open market (pick 10-15)

If Mitchell is worth more to you - keep him

What we gave up for Saad is criminal. He was worth pick 20-25. We overpaid massively.

If you can find someone who will do that for Mitchell then trade him. I hope we are not that dumb again
