If he were to be traded, what would Hawthorn get in return?

  • Two good 1st round picks

  • Top 10 pick and change

  • A 1st & a 2nd

  • Later 1st round pick

  • Two 2nd rounders

  • Early 2nd rounder

  • Other 2nd round pick

  • Less than a 2nd rounder

Tigers are in their window now and given the many young players at the club not sure if draft picks are needed over an established star it would include at least the last 1st rd pick 19 or something plus a 2nd rounder.
Yes the windows still open imo but we need to bring in more quality youth to cover for all the core premiership core that will nearly all be gone in 3 years. We haven't traded away a pick for 5 years. There are quality kids waiting for their chance to step up on our list already. I'd prefer we took Dunstan as a free agent than give away a first at a minimum for Mitchell. Yes I know they're not in the same league in terms of talent but it's still addresses our biggest weakness for free.

I'm pretty confident we can turn it around next year without chasing an a grader. It was a perfect storm for us this year.

If a 2nd rounder is your best, you're getting the door slammed in your face and water balloons thrown at you from the top window while being laughed at by Ronald McDonald.
Hence why I said Incant see a deal getting done

Dont want to do a Hawthorn and drop right off after all the older blokes retire, or get pushed in their case.

The windows not really open, just can't see the talent that will be able to do it next year. So many teams getting more advanced etc aswell.

Yeah toms better off sticking with us or moving to another vic club on the verge and hope they do a Brisbane and push up the ladder.

We'll see.

We haven't really had the luxury of fast tracking the young talent we have in the twos cos we've been busy winning premiershis. Add to that it's been the worst two years to develop youth in a nearly non existent vfl. They'll take big strides next season.

The talent isn't on the list, can't develop it if it isn't there. The players you relied in the premierships are getting old, injured or out of form.

There's plenty. As I said we haven't traded any picks out for 5 years. These are the same guys that compiled a premiership list.

Richmond is Interesting do you go full tilt while Martin is in his prime , one of the very best to do it . The rest of your experience is on the serious decline as hawks supporters we've all seen it happen . Mitchell will be the perfect addition if you do try top up if not I can't see you get anywhere near the top of the ladder with your youth pushing the charge , when your experience is down they haven't risen to the occasion all year.

Mitchell finding his best form is best case for the club . A team either pays premium to pull him out or we keep the best ball winner in the comp who still has 4 very very good years left.

Maybe that's because they haven't played any or very little football in the past 2 seasons
Due to covid

Well that's the same issue every other club faces .

I look at your youth and as 23 year olds Bolton is class but he is your cream on top player, rioli 24 is a failed fwd moved back who does look nice there , will he be the one driving your team up the ladder I don't think so, Graham is just a work horse besides being a gut runner he doesn't have any stand out traits .

Then we move to ccj who may well be moved on this year, stack I really like but I wouldn't bank on him having huge leadership qualities , balta has so much going for him but is coming back from a serious injury, mansell, dow and ralphsmith look tidy players and rcd can't cement his spot in a Side that has had injury trouble through the midfield,
then after that I'm really struggling.

Maybe you do go back to the draft and set yourself back 2 years to go again but then you face the issue of Martin being 32, prestia 31, lynch 31 and Edwards, Cotchin, riewoldt all retired .

There isn't plenty.
Great contribution. Thank you.

We'd be silly not to have another crack whole we have martin, riewoldt, grimes cotchin etc but I dont think Tom Mitchell is the answer. Not at the cost of our future.

Crucial guys like nank, Broad, balta, Edwards, vlastuin, lynch, dusty have all missed big chunks and none from soft tissue type injuries. Thats just unlucky. Not likely to happen again next year.

The gameplan looks shot, our assistants are terrible and the group looks tired. All pretty easily fixed.

Oh no Martin will be 32,lynch and Prestia 31
Cotchin and Reiwoldt retired,,,no major problem

Richmond going through the same thing we did a few years ago, they either load up now or bottom out for the next 5 years. They don’t have another martin, cotchin, riewoldt, edwards, prestia or houli sitting in the twos, as all teams that are up the top for that amount of time, they have little A grade youth coming through, balta and Bolton are the only young players I can see becoming elite.

You're selling Graham short. Look at his game last week. You forgot Baker who is a gun and only getting better. Balta has syndesmosis injury so will be fine by next season. It wasn't an ACL. Looks like a future star. Mansell Ralphsmith Dow all look very promising. Stack could be a star if he wants to be.

Then there are guys like Martyn, Cumberland and Samson Ryan who are all playing very well at vfl level. Rcd could be a bust or explode, jury's still out. Short, Nank and vlastuin are all mid 20s still.

There's plenty to work with and most of the core will still be around for the next couple of seasons yet.

Samson Ryan literally had a hitout and a free against on debut.

It was a shocking selection no doubt, he's nowhere near physically ready. Dimma threw him to the wolves. And we played probably our worst game for the year.

But he's been awesome at vfl level for a first year ruck/kpf. I'm more excited about him than any of the kids.

Throw him to the wolves then for having a rubbish debut. I suppose the Brisbane Lions should have done the same with Jono Brown right?

I'd hate for you to be a list manager if you throw someone out for having 1 bad game when the conditions were awful and didn't favour him in the slightest.

He was talking about VFL level, i was talking about AFL level and how he's not even close to being ready, he's years away.

and you judge that because of 1 AFL game that didn't suit tall players? Geez you are a harsh marker.

Having seen him in the VFL, if he has a big summer in the gym, I can see him surprising a few next year.

He needs to fill out heaps and doesn't look a natural footballer at the level, even at VFL he makes basic mistakes.
