If he were to be traded, what would Hawthorn get in return?

  • Two good 1st round picks

  • Top 10 pick and change

  • A 1st & a 2nd

  • Later 1st round pick

  • Two 2nd rounders

  • Early 2nd rounder

  • Other 2nd round pick

  • Less than a 2nd rounder

Hawks fans - unbelievable player so underrated, top this in this, this in this.

Also Hawks fans - trade?
Midfield of Worpel, O'Meara and Mitchell didn't work all year. I would rather offer up O'Meara but he isn't likely to get much more a late 2nd. Worpel is inferior but only 22. I doubt we would get a 1st round pick for him either

So that leaves Mitchell as likely to get the most value while also changing the midfield mix we had in there

I also have Neale as more likely to recapture his best form than Mitchell given Neale was clearly hobbled at times this year.
He was pretty close to it in the last 6 weeks. Became much more dangerous. Now that may have been because the team was better he started to look better or we finally threw a bigger body in the midfield to support the smaller mids we have

I'm one of the main protagonists in terms of posting that he is underrated, top in this, etc and I certainly do not want to see him traded.

If he is though (and goes to a club with a competitive midfield), watch the public perception shift when he has teammates capable of capitalising on all of the work that he does. He will suddenly be recognised as the match winner that he is (just like when Neale went to Brisbane only moreso given Hawthorn's midfield struggles more than Freo's did and Mitchell's raw numbers are higher than that of Neale).

'Seagull' who has the 7th highest contested possession average in the league over his career.

For those playing at home, that is higher than Bontempelli, Macrae, Petracca, Dusty, Pendlebury, Selwood, Wines, Boak, Steele, Walsh, etc, etc.

But yeah, let's lump him in with Aaron Hall who is not in the top 200.

Edit: Mitchell is also top 10 for average career tackles. The only other player top 10 in both is Clayton Oliver (Aaron Hall again not top 200).

But yeah, total seagull

How dare you use facts to back up your point!

4.7 per game. More than any Richmond player, funnily enough.
He can’t play any other position at all, unlike most of our mids who go forward. Pretty average numbers for a bloke getting 33 and playing there full time. Will be staying at hawthorn anyway

How were his clearance numbers? Pretty bad I hear
Not great pre bye 42 in 11 games 3.8 a game
Post bye they were good 62 in 11 games at 5.6 per game

I wonder what Hawks fans would consider a fair trade for Mitchell from the Lions.
- Pick 14/18 and 2022 1st Rounder with Haw 2022 2nd/3rd coming back.
Gives Hawks: 5, 14/18, 24 this year and 2 first rounders next year.

If Lions get pick 8 and 2022 2nd rounder from Freo.
- Offer pick 8 and 3rd rounder (47) with Hawks 2022 2nd/3rd coming back.
Gives Hawks: 5, 8, 24 & 47 this year.

I would do both trades with option 1 slightly better.

Yeah both seem pretty fair on our end you need points for next year correct?

Option 1 would be tempting me slightly more than 2 but would be happy with either.

Titch for 16+24+44 because it’s equivalent to pick 4 is a good deal apparently. Quite amazing really.
2 interstate clubs are seeking interest.

We won't be seriously competing for another 3 or so seasons and Titch is 28. It's a win/win/win scenario:

Hawks - Get another pick i.e. talented kid to add to the young group of Day, DGB, CJ etc. more in line with our next window

Insert other team getting Mitchell (Blues, Lions, Tigers) - Get an A grade ball winner to help a team in their flag window get stronger

Mitchell - gets to go to a team closer to a flag than Hawthorn are currently

The issue with this, that Hawks supporters seem to neglect, is the fact you want him gone for picks & oppo clubs are fully aware of this. He’s currently open to leaving, which will become a “want to leave” once he meets with a club that is more enticing then Hawthorns next 5 year prospects, which only hurts your bargaining power.

Opposition clubs are not stupid. They know that despite all the smoke & mirrors, he is being shopped & inevitably that is why you’ll get less then market value in terms of offers.

Ofcoarse you’ll counter with “we will keep him then”, but everyone that is a neutral to this situation knows that isn’t happening. Hawks will take the best offer they can get & unfortunately it won’t be as much as their supporters are expecting.

Almost 5 per game, at his best it was 8 in 2018 and in the 2nd half of 2021 it was about 6. Was kicking about 0.5 over the season in terms of goals and like 0.75-0.8 in the 2nd half of 2021.

Lol, he is happy here. We don't want him to leave and he's our best player. We only get rid of him if we win the trade. Period.

Mitchell already recaptured his best form this year...

It's like some people don't even watch footy.

Disagree. Mitchell got himself back into the frame to be a top 10-15 mid he was a genuine top 3 mid in his Brownlow year.

Mitchell post-bye form.
36disposals, 7 goals (0.6 per game), 5.6 tackles, 5.6 clearances, 128SC.

Mitchell Brownlow form.

36 disposals, 12 goals (0.5 per game), 6 tackles per game, 7.6 clearances 129SC.

Stats are stats but I think this number is the most telling.

Post-bye Mitchell has averaged 3.71 Coaches votes in the AFLCA award, not far off the 4 he averaged in his Brownlow winning 2018 season (in a team which made finals).

Mitchell's last three months of footy has been as close as to his Brownlow form as you can get. The numbers back it up, what the coaches are seeing back it up and he is most definitely passing the eye-test of many posters on the Hawthorn board. Can he keep it up in 2022? Who knows, but the idea that he will never be back to his best is laughably false. He has shown he can get back to his best as highlighted above.

Mitchell has his detractors but he is a bonafide elite midfielder and if you want a game to prove that simply watch his match against the all-conquering Dee's midfield. Absolutely pantsed the lot of them.

I hope he stays. He's hungry and he has a lot of doubters to prove wrong. And I wouldn't want him to rub egg in the face of others more than while he is wearing the Hawthorn colours.

Mitchell also had serious competition for coach votes from Wingard who got 8, 9, 9, 10 inthe last 4 games of the year.
