I don't mind it. Short term pain for long term gain. They've added high picks in Grainger-Barras, Day, Maginnes, Ward, Butler, Macdonald, Mackenzie, Weddle, Hustwaite, Weddle, traded in Meek, Lynch and Stephens as other long term pieces, got Newcombe in the MSD. Time will tell if they've gotten it right.
There's little doubt that they're going to get enough talent through the door with their approach. It's whether that talent develops well in a really poor team without seasoned pros as role models.

Good article but just on this……

“Mitchell arrived at the AIA Centre in the dying minutes of deadline day, following a three-way trade that paved a way for Ollie Henry to head to Geelong and sent former first-round pick Cooper Stephens to Hawthorn.

The Magpies essentially received pick No.25 for Henry and gave up two third-round picks for – picks No.41 and 50 – for the ball-magnet”

We weren’t going to use 50 anyway, and only lost 2 spots trading 41 away ( after taking account of academy and father father son picks) picking up Richards with our last pick at 48….. a player we had our eyes on anyway after Ben Reid recommended him.

So we really got mitchell for free as compensation for the henry deal. The picks we gave away were worthless to us.

Haven't read back so may be missing context, but there's still older guys there to lead. Gunston was the one we lost who we wanted to keep. I don't think Tom was overly comfortable with having to move to HF and sacrifice using his natural ability in the midfield to give the kids minutes, that's probably more why both parties were keen to move on.

But why I actually came here was to say it's been great to watch Mitchell flourish with the Pies. I've been a big fan of Collingwood for the past 6 or so years and have always wanted you guys to do well, and Mitchell was my favorite Hawk for some years so it's been so cool to see both go so well. He looks very comfortable and happy.

Time will tell, but here's your 100 gamers:

Amon, Bruest, Frost, Hardwick, Impey, Sicily, Wingard.

It's the type of experienced group that a start up club begins with and then they spend years watching their talented youngsters not quite live up to expectations.

I can't remember the exact study; but it was about start-up companies. I feel like some of it would apply to all walks of life including a football club.

Essentially the study concluded that for less experienced workers, having a TEAM MEMBER with experience was just as helpful to their development as having a good MANAGER.

Surely that applies to footy, experienced teammates is probably just as valuable as a good coach.

Or maybe another difference is that his coach is not an idiot.

I think, and have always thought, that having a “panel” of experienced coaches rather than one dictator-type, would work better with our list profile and it may also be better for identifying roles for undervalued players coming in.

Astounds me that he was the last priority of our trade targets last year when he should've been first. It was clear he was the elite clearance beast that addressed the biggest need for us.
Agree, thou I think there may have been some previous commitment between he and Wrighty, allowing us to grab other players first. Masterstroke!

Fly has Leppa and Bolton and that can't be underestimated.

Agreed. It looks like Tay is reveling in Titch being in the middle with him.
Yep. As much as i love Tay for his enthusiasm and energy, he does give away quite a few frees with over-zealous brain fades. Mitchell seems super clean with his tackles and attack on the ball, great for us.
