I'm sure we have a few Carlton fans here, anyone at training today see him out there. Even better has anyone seen him play and what do you think?

I'm a little surprised on what I've seen, thought he'd be a better chance next year just given his size at the moment.

He is only 16 at the moment so he won't be eligable until next year any way.

Footyman,

Tomi's father was at training, that excites me, greatest big game footballer I've ever seen in navy blue, can he be drafted? :)

THe blues would be better off waiting a year IMO. At his size its pretty touch and go...one more yr in the TAC should give a good indication of where he is at.

I was there and spent more time watching Johnston! Didn't look out of place training with Deluca, Longmuir and Carlos but I haven't seen him play!

I've played and trained with him a lot.... He is the best endurance athlete at the dragons with matt thomas and is a really good reader of the game! I guess he has to be with his size... Gets it a lot, great skills but obviously needs to build up! A great bloke too.

Worth a go for sure!

Exactly how tall and how many KG's is he ATM?

Given the lack of quality in this years draft, and the fact that we'll be picking Sammy Sheldon up next year as a father/son, it probably makes sense for us to pick Johnston up this year.

174 cms and 60kgs and slow.
No need to give up pick 35 and father/son him. If we want to get him then we can with pick 70 plus. No other club will take him at that size.
You can pick 2 players with father/son picks if you want.
I would much prefer to do that next year.
3rd riund and 2nd round. At least we wont be gambling on Tommi then and see if he has grown and filled out.

Who says he's slow? He may not be super quick but he's not slow.

Besides this draft is a joke so losing our 3rd round pick won't mean much, especially if we lose to Essendon and get a priority pick.

He runs a 20m sprint in 3.13 seconds. That is slow for his size.

we did this with raso, draft the kid, but let him play school/tac cup whatver next year.

Yeh but he might not be upto it. If you wait a year you can be sure. Obviously your recruiting staff didnt have this option with Raso.

If we wait till next year we'll have to ask ourselves if he's worth a second round pick in one of the best drafts of all time. I don't really want to do that and I imagine that neither does the club.

So was Greg Williams *shrugs*

If the potential is there pick him up, it's not going to cost us anything.

His last 5 games in the TAC.

15 possessions.
23
16
16
11 possessions

Greg Williams like?

He's been in the best 9 times from his 15 games, twice BOG, and he's plays a fair amount of his footy in the forward pocket which accounts for the low possession games.

Forward pocket in the TAC? Not even midfield? I will wager you any money that he will not be taken this year under father/son.

Gandaal never said he was like Greg Williams, read it properly before writing anything. You said he's slow, gandaal said so was Greg Williams, never said he played like him. Making a mountain out of a mole-hill!

How about $5 then?

Lol. Sure.
I think the problem is that we have Blackwell, Bentick and Smith on our list already and all lack pace. We have Betts as a forward pocket specialist. If he is good enough then by all means take him. I have seen Tommi play and he goes okay but nothing really special. Just need to do what is best for the club.
