Gandaal never said he was like Greg Williams, read it properly before writing anything. You said he's slow, gandaal said so was Greg Williams, never said he played like him. Making a mountain out of a mole-hill!

And what exactly are you doing with your post?

Lol. Sure.
I think the problem is that we have Blackwell, Bentick and Smith on our list already and all lack pace. We have Betts as a forward pocket specialist. If he is good enough then by all means take him. I have seen Tommi play and he goes okay but nothing really special. Just need to do what is best for the club.
Well I'll just base my opinion on the fact that the kid is already training with the senior group. I agree that he probably wouldn't be picked up normally as a bottom aged player but given the circumstances it would be silly for us not to pick him up.

Trying to read peoples point of views without them always being told their wrong. Just write what you think and not get your back up about other's opinions - you know your footy and the cfc so be happy with that!

I hope he is back playing midfield in the TAC like he was at the start of the year and racks up 30 plus. His form then was pretty good.

So your post was to tell me what to do? Get the irony of it.

Paddy you really need to post some more information about Justin Crow and how we should be drafting him. You will feel better then.

Crow is a 195+ cm tall defender who can pitch hit in the ruck and was the only Bullants player to make it into the VFL side to play the SANFL. If he could translate his form into the AFL he could be just what we need but that's a big could.

Gandaal. He is 197cms. You know how I am aware of that? Paddy said so in about 20 posts on the topic already. Have a look in the Carlton board and you will know what I mean.

Measurements are pretty unreliable down at Carlton so I wouldn't be so accurate. If Brad Fisher is 192 cms I'll do a Highland fling on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Sorry for talking about anything other than you and how wise you are mate!!! Crow is an option, thats all I ever said - mate you are so defensive.

Anyways...back to the post on Johnston and f/s's. I take your point mojo that he may be too small this year and that we've got enuff 170's type players. What about Sheldon? What's he like? Next year or afta that?

To settle this dispute, TJ plays in the midfield and rarely goes forward.... I think they'll give him another year in the TAC cup as there's no rush to get him! No other club will try him this year thats for sure!

Sheldon is 180cms and played in the U16s carnival recently and did well. A definite prospect for next year. That is the problem we would have to give up a 3rd round pick for him next year and if we took Tommi then it would have to be 2nd round. Since the draft next year looks like being a bumper one then it would be a huge price to pay.
So really lets just hope Tommi impresses at training and goes back to the TAC and gets a stack of it and makes the decision easy for Carlton.

174cm and 60kg.

Thanks for the information.

Sight unseen, at the size he would want to be super quick or a ball getting magnet, otherwise forget about him. Small and slow midfielders are a dime a dozen these days.

Not being 'super quick' doesn't necessarily mean they are 'slow'. He has the adequete speed for his position in the game (in and under midfielder).

For what it's worth, the boy can use the ball better than a good percentage of current AFL players.

There is no need to take Tomi Johnson with a 3rd round pick. No other club would be interested and we could use our last pick in the National Draft.

We have already made a mistake picking up Luke Blackwell with a 3rd round pick when no other club was interested. A late pick last year could have been used. ( we should have used that pick on a project KP backman)

Who told you that? Actually Blackwell was being discussed as a potential first rounder or at the very least a second rounder.

Luke Blackwell's a terrific footballer along the lines of a Mitchell, Power or Shannon Grant! Totally worth picking up and would have been snapped up in the second round if he wasn't drafted F-S. :)
We drafted a project player (Raso) with the last pick in the draft and the recruitment of Chambers when Spangher was available is what should be questioned!

I beg to differ about other clubs taking Luke as a second rounder or even 3rd for that matter.

What I am trying to say is we don't need another project on-baller in Tomi.

The likes of becker, smith etc are always available at all levels of the draft.

We will get good footballers with some early picks this year in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds, but hope we don't use all those picks on on-ballers

Last year we either traded or drafted on-ballers with 4 of our firsts 5 picks when we struggle for height in defense and lack a quality young ruckman or even a project one.

I agree we did take Raso as a project young tall (forward) to go with the likes of Fevola, Fisher, Whitnall and Waite ( all of which are similar heights)

We need to use quality picks on quality talls (KP Backmen and Rucks), as the trend is pushing heights between 193cm to 196cm, not 190 to 192

we did this with raso, draft the kid, but let him play school/tac cup whatver next year.

Where has Raso been playing? I can't see how an AFL listed player is permitted to play school or TAC footy. Surely it must be VFL?

AFL listed players cannot play in the TAC cup............Raso has been playing at CHB for Haileybury in the APS comp.

And like i said before 1 of our first 5 picks from last year used on what we need.

I wonder it would be wise to invest in more of his type??

Would it not be easier to say we used our 2nd pick in getting him. That would seem to indicate the club realises it needs a big KPP developing. I do recall 2 Irishmen playing at the club. Carlton have put 2 years into Setanta and 1 year into Aisake already. Very long term thinking I would say. Same for Raso. He is 192cms and needs at least another year before being ready.

Good call mojo. Add Batson as the long term ruck investment. Whether he makes it or not we wont know until another eyar or two, same goes for the others. The investments are being made thanks to Wayne Hughes our recruiting manager.

I am reasonably happy with what Hughes has done. O'Sullivan is another story however.
