Yet EVERY CLUB, including the doggies would be better off with him
How you carry yourself stands for plenty.

GWS have a small group of players who act like theyre multiple premiership superstars, when in reality they haven't achieved anything yet.

You spelt Toby Greene wrong. There's daylight between him & the rest of the punchable twats

Fair shout.

You could actually raffle every "Giants" player and come up with a punchable face.

Horrible campaigners, the lot of them.

The club's risky gamble ended up paying off, no doubt. Does the fact that we won, somehow mean that didn't pay more than we could have or should have paid at the time? Of course not, but importantly we no longer care because ultimately it didn't make the difference between winning and losing.

Tom played a great game in the GF, and I could not have been happier watching him do it.

You may need to see your dentist in the coming weeks - a lot of posts coming clearly thru gritted teeth.

Totally agree with your sentence that just cause we won a flag doesn't mean all decisions we made along the way were right. And yeh also doesn't mean that we suddenly didn't overpay to bring tom to the club. But gee to even infer that the decision to get Boyd at whatever cost hasn't been the right one staggers me.

No one can suggest that Tom was a wrong decision for the club purely because of the influence he had in finals and more particularly the grand final. It's been a correct decision and that should be indisputable now -- although it appears through your recent couple of posts u cannot admit to.

So yeh we overpaid in the trade to get a contacted player out - something the crows may look back on and wish they had done.
So yeh we financially paid more to the kid to convince him to throw his name out there in a trade period where we had some currency and to convince a clear number 1 draft pick with 10+ years of footy left ahead of him to walk.

But I really hope you aren't suggesting that tom was one of the "wrong" decisions that doesn't suddenly become right when we win a flag. If he hadn't performed and we still won I'd give u that comment. The kid did perform and was a massive reason we got there and won.

Right decision.

Don't worry, their board is already an irony-impaired hornets nest of salt and sociopathy. Our work is done.
I'm greatly encouraged in a small way by the attitude of the GWS board but more importantly extremely encouraged by the attitude of the players themselves. Having a club who could be a rival to our greatness having such a its just going to happen attitude will work in our favour. I feel our club has a strong attitude that it won't just happen and we need to write our own history, with a why not us attitude rather than a of course it will be us attitude. Cameron is a young coach so his challenge will be to change this and I'm not sure he will be able to. Bev is certainly instilling our group with an attitude that could lead to sustained success that we need to work towards rather than success being our given right.

GWS fans aren't used to oppo fans trolling their team as they've only just started to become a good footy side. Its going to come thick and fast as they play more finals. You're not exempt from the crosshair just because you follow a new team with young players. Welcome to being a passionate AFL fan.

The first melts are always the strongest, and I'm enjoying them thoroughly.

To the people who are saying "he played a good game and just because we won the flag but it doesn't justify the pay packet or the trade".

Let's take what they're saying at face value.

So therefore say we didn't win the Grand Final.

Say all things being equal but hypothetically Bontempelli got an injury in the first quarter or whatever, we therefore lost to the Swans, but Boyd still played the excellent game that he did in this hypothetical world (in holding all things constant).

Do people honestly think that, give. we've be all on this board talking about how we can recover and have another crack next year and how we can improve, people would be saying we'd be more likely to win a flag next year with Peter Wright, an unproven finals performer, and another top 10 pick (Cockatoo or whoever we were interested in with pick 7 we would have gotten for Griffen if we didn't pull the trigger on) rather than Boyd who's just proven he's a finals performer and shown to everyone why he was a unanimous number 1 selection in the first place? And Boyd's $1 million next year would roughly equal Wright's $700k or so and Cockatoo's $300k or so that they'd earn next year.

Would anybody be sitting here thinking to themselves, even if we hadn't won the flag but Boyd had a good grand final, "gosh darn it, I'd back us to make amends next year if only we had Wright and Cockatoo instead if Boyd"? Clearly not. So the Boyd deal was still a good one.

To anyone who puts that suggestion forward, we need to ask:

What price a Premiership?

Answer that, and then you're free to put a value on the pay packet and the trade.

What were the merchandise sales pre and post Grand Final? About $1 million wasn't it? Will probably be $2-3 million plus in sales by the end, then add 10k new members, sponsors jumping on, bumper crowds at functions, the hoards of new kids worshipping Bont, Stringer, JJ, Libba and Tommy and we've hit the jackpot, struck an oil well, call it whatever you like.

We are in the strongest position in our history and the orange pig shooters don't know how to deal with it.

I can't believe the contract is still a discussion worth having ( a lot of I have to win the argument mentality?)
. We won a flag two years in and he played well. Money spent, well or not. Premiership has added $$$$$$$ to our cash flow. Bont et al will get their turn at the cash. Salary cap continuing to increase to allow that to happen. Pressure to leave said club to seek premiership success a la B Lake made redundant by an early success. Most players Victorian. Case closed. Worth it.

Next time we play GWS, if Jezza actually gets near the footy, unlike his ghost-like efforts in the PF, I would like to see the following scenario play out:

Jezza puts head over the footy. Boyd kicks his head clean off his shoulders. Toby Greene witnesses his brain fall out the bottom of his neck, suffers PTSD and walks away from footy.
