I found it patronizing, particularly when he called her 'feisty'.

LOL, no you didn't find it patronizing at all you liar.

I'm sick of people deliberately taking offence to something that is not offensive, just because the person that uttered it is a member of a political party they don't vote for.

You're "looking" to be offended. It's a trait of the left. A pathetic trait.

The double standards and hypocrisy from the left on this is incredible. Anyone remember Bob Hawkes' 80th birthday bash? Or Kevin Rudd's strip joint trip? Of course not. Those things are conveniently forgotten so that, instead, we can all focus on Tony Abbott's truthful, joking, and lighthearted claim about sex appeal.

Just face it, Tony Abbott is held to far higher standards than anyone on the left. And it's disgraceful.

If you talk to Liberal Party members, they bitterly resent the quite disproportionate influence that the National Party has within the coalition. They represent a very small number of voters and do not hold very many seats, but those seats they do hold tend to be by a huge margin and they are vital to Coalition government.
Sounds to me like the same complaint made about the independents and Greens in this minority govt.
Did you also find it patronising when Julia Gillard referred to some women as 'feisty'?
Beyoncé totes patronised Sasha Fierce when she named her that.

The difference being that the Liberals and Nationals campaign on a joint platform, so that the electorate knows what they are getting from a Coalition government. They don't cut a deal based on minority interests after the election.

Let's not pretend govt's don't change policy and agenda's post-elections all the time. That's the weird thing about the constant bleating about the carbon tax 'lie'. Labor said they would put a price on carbon, they just didn't specify the mechanism. The deal with the Greens meant it was a fixed price and then a floating price - the same as Rudd's ETS. I think the major differences related to it being a longer period of a fixed prices and less compensation for polluters? The media were the worst performers of this parliament - which is pretty bad considering Thommo's antics.

That's not really got anything to do with the point. There is a big difference between a formal coalition that campaigns with a joint platform, and a minority government that has to negotiate with several different interest groups after an election in order to secure power.

Regardless of what you think of the success or failure of the last three years, it is a fundamentally different arrangement to a Coalition government.

Of course there is a difference, in that you know who the Liberals will be linked with and can therefore be a better predictor of the positions they will take. I don't think Labor did anything unusual in the minority govt, but once again the hatred of the Greens that the Liberals encourage (Abbott said today they were the only ones against growing the economy which is a bit disingenous but has some truth, but he also complained that they were pro-renewable energy, which surely he is too?) and the false idea that this parliament was especially chaotic (having to negotiate policy isn't new - it's called a senate; changes or challenges of leaders isn't new either) or poor has created an illusion that minority govt is bad. I fear these sorts of false impressions are going to become more common with the fracturing of media sources.

The left do seem to hate adjectives. Haters.

I'm not sure you're in a position to comment noddy given that you rate Julia Gillard in the looks department

Well it seems i am not alone on this view even if it is Mark Latham who agrees.

Abbott 'must have had beer goggles on': Latham

Former Labor leader Mark Latham has bought into the row, saying Mr Abbott was "gilding the lily".

"It showed very bad judgment. It shows that he's got low standards. I don't think she's got sex appeal at all," he told 3AW.
"Abbott has exaggerated massively here to try and win her votes among the blokes in Lindsay.
"He must have had the beer goggles on because she's not that good a sort.
"And I'd rather have an aspirant for the prime ministership who is a good judge at checking out the good sorts as many Australian men do.
"He's gilding the lily here ... in politics they say that it's show biz for ugly people and I don't think she'll be out of place."

But...but....Gillard said it was only Abbott and the Liberal Party that were misogynists and hated women? I'm confused.

Kind of ironic that an Iranian woman is being denied her rightfully elected seat due to her being "too attractive" (whatever that means) and we are having a scandal about someone talking up someone's attractiveness in order to get them elected and being pasted because she is "too plain".

It's weird.

Maybe Abbott's "sex appeal" comment explains why they don't trust Treasury - not enough short skirts?

I looked her up and thought sex appeal was a pretty big stretch (minger was the word that came to mind), but she'll be a looker in the halls of Hollywood for ugly people.
*high fives Latham*
