Top 10 Great Football Clubs..

You realise he was joking?

I think everyone has nailed it so far. Not sure about the South American clubs. The best football is played in europe, amongest the best. So I believe it's only fair that a team outside europe, isn't in the top 10.

Not sure about this. Generally speaking the best players play in Europe but not necessarily the best football. I've taken more to watching the Brazilian league because their games are just so much easier to watch than what you expect in most European leagues

No order

1 Manchester United

No matter how good the squads are you'd rather see a match between Madrid and United than a match between say City and PSG

For a fan who supposedly supports the greatest football club in the world, your cheap digs at City & PSG make it seem like your a highly insecure individual, this thread has nothing to do with them & yet you feel compelled to bring them up to support your opinion.

Football is cyclical by nature. No team has a divine right to success.

I have never really seen much of Benfica or any Brazilian teams tbh and I thought Celtic were more of a known team worldwide

Benfica: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benfica_Lisbon#Support
Due to the success and popularity of its football and eclecticism, Benfica has built the biggest fan base in Portugal and one of the biggest in the world with 14 million fans. Benfica holds the Guinness World Record for the football club with most members.

I guess by worldwide you mean English speaking countries like Australia with loads of expats? Or British tourists traveling around Asia?

You never see Sao Paolo fans unless you're in Brazil, or maybe in the US. But with a population of almost 200 million, these clubs are massive enough from local support only.

Well I have never met a Benfica/Sao Paolo supporter, they aren't shown on Aus TV while I know some Celtic supporters and have watched a few games vs Rangers in the last few years so it's natural for me to see Celtic as a bigger club

Easier to watch because its all flashy? Thats probably why. Theres more to it than step overs and skill moves. The competitivness of European Football will always be the main reason it's better to watch IMO. (although I am genrealising, and some leagues in europe are average).

more fans than Barca and REAL? Doubt it;
More successful? No way.
Asia.
Man Utd has the most fans, there's no doubt about it.
Too bad 90% of them are overseas bandwagoners who only support them because they've been winning for hte last 20 years.

Real fans though. United would be on par with many clubs like Barca, Liverpool, Real etc for having real fans. It's the millions of bandwagoners they have at the moment who are on board because Utd have been successful for the past 20 years. They are not real fans and you can tell very quickly when they dont know who Tom Cleverly is, or who George Best is?

"Yeah but Rooney and we won the league and all that" Shut the **** up bandwagoner!! I know more about United than you, you stupid campaigner. Every club has them, United more than most because of recent success. I HATE bandwagoners.

On reputation and prestige (not necessarily recent success), I would say (in no particular order):

Man U
Liverpool
Inter
AC
Juventus
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Bayern Munich
Celtic

In no particular order:

Bayern Munich
AC Milan
Manchester United
Celtic
Real Madrid
Liverpool
Ajax
Inter Milan
Juventus
Barcelona

Why would anyone have Celtic in a "Top 10 great football club" list?

Seriously, one European Cup 50 years ago? Is this the bases of them getting in?

My List

1. Bayern Munich - Germany
Biggest and most successful club in one of the most successful footballing nations. European Cup winners 4 times, runner up 5 times. Also has provided 16 World cup winning players including the core of most of the West Germany world cup winning teams.

2. Real Madrid - Spain
Arguably the most successful footballing team ever. European Cup winners 9 times, runner up 4 times. Played in 8 European cup finals between 1956 - 1964 but then had to wait 32 years to win their next in 1998. Lack of success with national team players I feel puts them second to Bayern Munich.

3 A.C Milan - Italy
7 European Cup wins, runner up 4 times. Changed the way Italian football was played with Dutch flair and Italian grit. Defined a generation of Italian tactics from the late 1980's.

4. Ajax - Holland
4 European Cup wins, 2 times runner up. Took football to another level with "Total Football". Also changed the way in which youth players are taught, the basis of which still is in use today.

5. Liverpool - England
5 European Cup wins, 2 times runner up. Still the most successful British team in Europe.

6. Juventus - Italy
2 European Cup Wins, 5 times runner up. Probably a controversial decision to have at 6 in the list but as the saying goes, when Juventus is doing well, so does Italy. Juventus have contributed 22 players to Italian World Cup winning squads, more than any other team. Balances out their lack of European success for me.

7 Barcelona - Spain
4 European Cups, 3 times runner up. The greatest team of all time number 7 on the list?!?!? Trollololol? No. Apart from the single cup win in 1992, Barcelona have always been amongst the second tier of European clubs until the last 7 years. will no doubt move up the list within the next few years.

8. Manchester United - England
3 European Cup wins, 3 times runner up. Low in the list for a lack of continual European success, lack of influence within the game and no period of domination.

9. Benfica - Portugal
2 European Cup Wins, 5 times runner up. Was the of the most dominant clubs of the 60's in Europe wining the Cup in 61' 62' and finished second in 63'65'68'. Don't get the respect they deserve.

10. Santos - Brazil
Yeah, I said it. Santos. Provided 15 World cup winners, the most outside European teams.
