If a player is relatively quick, good at ground level, good in the air, good defence and most importantly, a goal kicker, why does it matter that he's medium height and not 5 cm shorter? Its just a bonus that he is medium height and not small.

It just makes our forward line more well rounded if we can keep bringing in big bodied guys who aren't a liability on the deck.

Particularly if they are also a good decision maker and skillful by foot and by hand. I'd have liked Membrey, but such is life....

Saints will offer their first pick in the third round.... I think our 2nd round picks are too high for him, so he isn't worth the cost to bring him in. I like him too but being a bit more realistic.
And reading another post, they want the first pick in the second round, which is massive overs. Glad we are out of that trade!

Most of that is bullshit tbh. Hahahah. Sorry to burst your bubble man.

Understand that. But my point still stands. If we could manufacture a trade for greenwood while keeping our 2nd round picks and using the players wanting out as currency, I would be happy with that outcome.

What are we going to trade for greenwood?? Nothing?

Greenwood coming to us doesn't change the 'who wins?' equation though.

Norf get Higgins without having to give anything up no matter what else we do. We get #26 for Higgins, so get some compensation. If we trade with Norf for Greenwood, or with any club for any other player, it doesn't change the fact that Norf got Higgins for nothing and we lost Higgins in exchange for #26.

Just want to post something extra now, as it will be my 1000th post. Taken me 5 years to get here. im like a often injured player. Not contribute much each year, but waiting for my so called "break out year". Hopefully I get a good pre-season into me!

Really have a good feeling, we will have a successful offseason. Have done really well in the last couple of years. and as others have said, this year will be a make or break year for us.
Really hope to trade up to get a Maccartin, but also snare Walker from Geelong.
Don't worry buddy, took me just as long, slow and steady!

When you consider that there has been speculation as to where he would play next year all season, I suspect that his mind may have already been elsewhere.

The Hawks are experts at cherry picking players. I for one trust their judgement.
He's an uncontracted player, why would we need to trade them anything?
do we need Greenwood, really? Not a bad player but haven't we got young midfielders coming out of our ears?

Agree. I should prefix all my posts in this thread with - provided the deal is right for us (in terms of picks and salary)....

Would make life easier....

North win if we trade our compo pick for greenwood.

Norf in - pick 26 and Higgins
Norf out - greenwood

Dogs out - Higgins
Dogs in - greenwood

Not smart dogs

Not sure if you're being facetious but that's just a product of the free agency system, where a club that receives a free agent doesn't have to give anything up. If we don't trade in Greenwood what's the net result?

North: in Higgins out nothing.

Dogs: in pick 26 out Higgins.

Dogs arguably break even, North get a gain. North win.

When we don't really have a choice where Higgins chooses to go, it's not really the best comparison IMO.....

If we landed greenwood and maintained 3 picks in top 30 I would be stoked.

Well.....I would be surprised if Norf would do a straight swap for Jones. Pies might offer something a bit juicer.

Gee if they lose Greenwood it would be a complete schmoozle for them. Why would they not sort out Greenwood before offering such a big deal to Higgins?

One in one out....except the one out would currently be better than the one in. Amazing!

That wouldn't get it done. With 2 knees unfortunately Clay has no trade value anymore.

Needs another 2 years of uninterrupted footy to be of value in a trade. Far more use to us getting him right and back on the park....

Ah ok . Is he what we really need ?
Exactly Harold, why do we really want him? We rave about our kids, yet are happy about trading for a slow, poor kicking mid.
He gets the ball ok but is average by foot. My theory on trading or drafting mids these days for the dogs is either they have to be exceptionally skilled if slow. Example Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis or they have to have pace to burn and be a line breaker example Judd, Griffen, Dangerfield.
I don't like the idea of getting accumulators that cant kick well.
